considering buying a bike much more than previously (and now i have the $$ to do it too)

'95 ninja 250R with 4k miles, good condition

seller is asking 2000, but im thinking the bike is only worth 1000-1250 cause its so old. new ninja is only 3k

opinions from all the atot riders?

thanks

i agree, 2000 is too much. what condition are the fairings in? if they're in good condition, 1500-1700 might be fair.

That's already a lot of depreciation for a bike.

The bikes I look at lose maybe $500 in price after 10 years and 50,000 miles. (I'm looking at Harleys.)

i just bought a new ninja 250 this past summer--- man i love that thing.

i decided to go for a new one instead of used becuase like you said, they're so cheap. And second, becuase most people use it as learning bike and i didnt want to take a chance that the previous owners hadn't maintained it properly or had abused it.

no regrets at all -- i love my bike and will probably give it to my younger brother when i decide to upgrade to a larger bike.

insurance on bikes is DIRT cheap. granted, i'm slightly older than you -- but i only pay 200/yr through progressive for my bike.

Yep, mine's about $270/year for my '98 GSX-R. Then again, that's only liability; up it to full coverage, and it's somewhere in the $2.5k range.

$2000 is a bit high for that year and that model, yeah. I got a year-old 500R back in 2002 for $2500, and I believe that thing's about $5000 new (I ended up selling it to a friend for $2200 a year later; great starter bike). I'd say $1500 tops, depending on the condition of the 250.

That is way to high for that bike. My buddy bought a ninja 250 that was mint with 6000 miles and a 1996 for $750. I live in Florida, the 600CC bikes and up hold value here, but not the 250CCs.

I paid $5k for a 2002 CBR F4i (600CC) 6 months ago, and it had 4K miles on it. I think that is a much better deal than the $2K Ninja 250 (Price comparison wise)

Hope you don't get too sad when you're busa gets rocked by a 250 😉

My 2003 Ninja 250 was $2200 with 1,500 miles on it. I don't think that that bike is worth just $200 less. I'd say 15-1700.

Insurance on this bike is great, too. No liability, and a high deductible, I pay like 147 a year with State Farm. I think with the $500 deductible it would be something like 170/year.

as long as the plastic is in really good shape and they have good maintanence records i'd agree with triumph...otherwise don't give that much for it...

The bike is worth $1250 max. In my local cycletrader you could have your pick of 03/04 ex250's, less than 2K on the clock, for around $2K.

And insurance on a bike 'can' be cheap, but usually it's not. For my old 250 is was something like $80/year for liability only. On my sv650 its $400 full coverage (both thru Progressive.) Any Jap 600 would cost me $1K+/year....for six months of riding. No thanks.

It depends on age and location. Progressive charges me 250 per year full coverage on a Busa.

I agree with your pricing. For the asking price, I would go with a new one with warranty.

beginner bikes dont lose their price that fast compared to more powerful bikes.. hence 2K price. however you are right for a 10 yr old ninja i could only pay 1700 for it at max. 1K is ideal.

The ninja 250 is an awesome starter bike.. do a season or two of proper riding (not just riding in a straight line) before you think of upgrading..

true.. but you ride a GS500.. we will always say that.. 🙂

But 250 or 500, for the price / performance you cant be beat. The Ninja 250 actually has the almost same amount of power as our GS500's.. so technically the 250R is faster cause its lighter and equally as powerful. Only problem the power kicks in after 9K.

which means to go anywhere he's gotta get up to 9k... not great imo for a beginner...

actually what i mean by moving at 9K.. the power kicks in at 9K or so.. but you will move before that.. as for getting used to going past 5K.. it will take you a while, but you will get to it.. once you break the barrier, hold on tight..

hehe.. i can only imagine how fast bikes are! with such a small weight:horsepower ratio, people must fly on them 🙂
