Alright, can someone explain to me how you solve the equation ?cos^2 x ? The book gives an example of how to solve it, but frankly I don't really understand where they pull some of the numbers from (they do a more general form by integrating ?cos^n x )

Thanks in advance.

I think you are trying to solve for (cos x)^2 right? If so, (cos x)^2 = (1/2)(1+cos2x). You can integrate pretty easily from there.

Since it appears you're just starting trig integrals, I highly recommend that you memorize as many of the "basic" trig formulas as you can.
