YAMT: Inflamed Face, Fingers, and Toes

my friend's girlfriend is having some kind of reaction and i can't figure out what it is... i thought maybe some of the good atot med staff might be able to help...

her face gets red and hot from her cheeks, then the auricles of her ears, then to the neck/chest area... then, it goes to her hands.... then it goes to her feet... but sometimes her face won't be red and hot anymore by the time it reaches her hands... the redness comes in blotches.

no history of psoriasis
no history of rheumatoid arthritis
no penicillin antibiotics
taking birth control (lutera)... been on it over a year
she's got a leaky valve and fast heartbeat

this has been happening with her face for years and years... ever since she was a kid. the hands and feet thing has been happening for the past couple months.

it basically looks like how it would look if you saw someone in cold or really warm weather... but it happens whenever she's completely comfortable...

it gets worse when she gets angry

she's had the face thing ever since she was 10-11...

no acne

I don't think acne is always present from what webmd sais. Just that it could be part of the symptoms. Anyway that may not be it. Just the only thing I could think of with those symptoms.

I don't know, but I went hiking the other day, and my hands started itching and swelled up for a couple hours. It was weird. Allergy maybe?

The leaky valve might be contributing if it gets worse when she's under stress (read: angry). My sister had irregular heart beats a few years ago (fixed with surgery to the nerve controlling the heart), and she used to get flushed under stress in the face like that. Never got to her hands or feet as far as I know though.

Disclaimer: Not a doctor

no itching over the affected areas....

i was thinking that maybe the valve might be contributing to it, too... leaky valve contributes to the fast heartrate to maintain proper blood pressure... but a leaky valve would also cause a decrease in venous return... which might cause the swelling and redness... but i was just grasping at straws.

maybe a combination of eczema and allergies. Im currently experiencing a rash on my face which my dermatologist friend said was a bad case of eczema probably due to the cold weather this year. Stress is considered one factor that agitates eczema. Try giving her some benadryl, but note it will make her sleepy.

Maybe she's allergic to water.

Or life?

Seriously though, it sure sounds like something to do with her "leaky valve".

When was the last time she went to a REAL doc?

her blushes have never been raised or scaly or anything, and no butterfly rash, so i doubt it's lupus (thank God)...
