YAMST/YAeT: Gawd I hate Microsoft!!!!

They cancelled my eBay auction for a copy of Win98 OEM. It's NOT vendor specific, and I'm including an appropriate piece of hardware! In this case it was going to be a useless/broken hard drive.

Has anybody had any success fighting this sort of thing?

I think it's rediculous.... :|

I did, but it languished. I saw copies going for $45 on eBay and thought that would be the best way to go.

What really ticks me off is that they do this crap without contacting me first. That's heavyhandedness by both Microshaft and eBay. :|

Here's the response I got from M$:

* Unauthorized Distribution of Incomplete Software Packages
Microsoft software is licensed as a complete package
including the program disk and Certificate of Authenticity and, for
certain software, the user manual and a printed End User License
Agreement. Because of this package-specific licensing, any offer to
transfer Microsoft software should include the components with which it
was originally distributed by Microsoft. The distribution of an
incomplete software package, such as the program disk only, separates a
copyright-protected item into its component parts. Such distribution is
not authorized under the terms of the End User License Agreement.

Apparently because I don't have the manual, I can't sell it. WTF?

I had the manuals sealed oem win 2k w/coa's, etc with appropriate hardware and they canceled mine and threatened to terminate my ebay account if they found it again.

That's just insane.

I'm composing a set of letters to my senators and representative about this. This is way overdoing it. It's like saying you can't resell a book after you've read it. :Q

Can you nto sell OEM software period? What if I uninstall it from my system then sell it?

Ebay canceled one of my auctions of an orignal Playstation with a mod chip in it. This was like 5 years ago

Haven't sold something on Ebay since.
