So I have a small thing hanging off the end of my tongue. I don't know where it came from. I assume it's just a taste bud that... popped out somehow. Anyway, does anyone know what this is called? I can't find anything online. It seems like it may have happened to me previously. Do I just wait for it to fall off... or does it go back in? It mostly only hurts if I push it up against my mouth or teeth.

Lingual Papillitis.

It's basically an inflammed taste bud. The inflammation will go down eventually and its nothing to worry about. Probably just some kind of random irritation set it off
 
I've made the mistake of ripping them off before. Makes them hurt less ...until you eat anything citrus/salty and your tongue feels like it's on fire.

Just leave it alone, and let it heal on its own.

Thanks for the replies. I get them every now and then, just the white spots that are painful, but this one was practically hanging off. I think it probably fell off, 'cause it's not there anymore. Oh well. Guess things won't be as tasty anymore... :cookie:
 
Nothing to worry about. They'll keep popping up and multiplying. Eventually your tongue will turn black and fall off.

You'll be fine.

Your GF may be a little disappointed, though.
