Some sellers actually do look at the screen and try to make sure you get a good one for paying the extra.

TA_planet is the highest rated seller for most of these monitors.

Problem with them is that they charge a good $120 more than anyone else. Since all other reputable sellers don't charge "shipping" (ie they ship for half that, and keep an extra cut).

Worth it? Debatable, but not for me.

For $420+ from ta_planet, I can get the same panel from Micro center for $450 (they got em online).

At that point I'd rather have the good warranty.

i got both mine from TA planet for 315 with free shipping and a power adapter that works in the US. ShiMian QH270's

i just checked they are ~325 not, so not that expensive, all the brands are pretty much identical and only differ on the look of the bezel/stand

Well I jumped in and got one with not only DVD-D but VGA and HDMI as well. Was $389 shipped, but since I work on computers and use the VGA cable to hook them up to it was worth paying the little extra.

So for the people that have these 2560x1440 27" monitors, how are they are reading text for a long time? I mostly reading, surf and watch movies and might game occasionally. Compared to a 28" 1920x1200, the pixel pitch on these 2560x1440 27" monitors seem a bit lower.

Thanks.

I've heard some people had issues with one of these monitors displaying the BIOS (the screen will not show the BIOS at all) and that would be totally unacceptable for me. Have any of you guys have that issue, or know which monitor it was that does this?

That would have to do with the edid (sp?) information not being fully programmed into the panel.

My thinkpad replacement LCD has this issue, fortunately my BIOS has a setting to scale vs native resolution that fixes it by giving me a small picture-in-picture type view of my BIOS (or I can just hook up an external screen).

I was pissed about it and seems par for the course with many of these well-recommended uber cheap panels.

I also got the Catleap 27" multi with vga and HDMI. I have 0 dead pixels, I did not get the perfect pixel version just the regular.

Glossy screen requires getting used to, for heavy text reading I would not suggest it possibly a removable screen filter can be a solution?

For watching movies/TV and gaming this this is utterly GORGEOUS, the colors are so vivid and picture is so sharp, and a very small amount of calibration was needed out of the box.

Admittedly the housing is flimsy as flubber, and frankly it's structural fortitude is akin to that of the rectal secretions of a taco bell patron after a rather large meal, that being said I do not move the monitor around very much, and I am more than happy to put up with crappy stand for getting this picture quality for $400.

If you don't mind glossy, jump on this while you still can, fuck I am thinking of getting a second one.

Mine's supposed to have problems. I never have had problems with BIOS. Even when I was using a "non-compatible" video card (HD 5770).

PS: ixelion, I think you missed one ;)
