yamaha scsi cdrw 16x

anyone have this cdrw....i have the 16x and 20x in ide...i bought the 16x for a system but didnt like it...its loud and winds up for what seems like forever to access....possibly its just the noise that makes it seem like forever....anyway i like the 20x alot...very fast quiet...like a totally different drive...i want a scsi drive though ....so back to the begining....lol...anyone have the yamaha 16x in scsi and how does it run for you.

I thought I read somewhere that all (for sure at least certain models) new Yamaha SCSI drives are really ATAPI units with a SCSI-IDE adapter in the external case. Even so, you still get the benefits of SCSI, like simutaneous access of multiple devices, out-of-order command execution, etc.

I turned my ATAPI Acer 10x8x32 internal CDRW into an external SCSI-2 drive using a similar SCSI-IDE cabinet made by ACARD, and it works great. Freed up an IDE channel inside my PC, plus it now works with my older Macintosh, too.

For about $100 you could turn that 20x internal IDE drive into an external SCSI drive, LMK if you want more details.
