Well I just bought a new yamaha receiver rx-v471 and a samsung bluray player. I hooked everything to my tv and everything works except for the bluray. So I have everything going into the receiver and one RGB going to the tv. I have the bluray on HDMI 1. When I turn on the receiver it works fine with the tv and the satellite we have. But when I change to input 1 it doesnt work. Nothing shows up. So I thought something is wrong with my bluray player. I tested the bluray my bypassing the receiver and plugging it directly into the tv and everything worked fine. Hm it seems like the receiver doesnt like the HDMI input from the bluray player. DO you guys know what is going on? If you need any other info please let me know and I can give it to you. Thanks.

Also I plugged RCA from the bluray player into the receiver not the HDMI and still had the same problem.

Okay I look on some forums on yamaha and it seems like it can only have HDMI output. I tried moving my cpu moniter and plugged it in and it worked perfectly. Does anyone know why this. I was going to order a convert, hopefully that will do the trick. Something like this should work right?

Basically no receivers will send any HDMI out over component. Does the TV not have HDMI in?

You may be stuck sending 1080i (or 720p) over component through the receiver to your display if this is the case.

What TV do you have?

If you connected the BluRay to your TV directly with HDMI why aren't you using HDMI out of your receiver?

Maybe I wasnt clear. The HD tv is a projection screen that has no HDMI. I plugged the Bluray directly into the tv but it didnt work just using rcas for some reason. I believe the convert I bought should be okay and have the picture in 1080. Any other information you guys need?

Okay This is really confusing. The converter came in today. So here is my set up.
Receiver Connections:
Satellite box via HDMI
Bluray via HDMI

Receiver and TV are connected by
HDMI cable coming out of the receiver to the conversion box that I bought from amazon in my post.

So the problem is that the tv works fine. but the bluray does not work at all. Nothing comes up on the screen. Not sure what is going on. Maybe there is something up with the bluray player. Anyone know what is going on? Thanks.

What is the converter box you bought? This seems like a HDCP handshake issue and it might not be able to accept/convert the HDCP signal. If this is the case you may have issues with any blu-ray player regardless of brand.

What resolution are you outputting from the Sat box?

It is most likely a HDCP issue but maybe just maybe it's a resolution issue. Try setting the bluray to output at 1080i instead of 1080p.

Are you dead set on getting lossless audio? because if not you could just skip HDMI all together until you get a new display and use component.

When you say your TV is a projection screen, you mean a projector with a screen right? Or is it a Rear projection TV (Like older big screen TV)?

As far as I know all Blu-ray players have HDCP over HDMI, I don't know that HDMI specifically requires the use of it but over the years the market force has driven HDCP into play.

You are trying to violate HDCP. I'm pretty sure you won't have any luck with that box. You need to update that tv.

This is what Yamaha told me.

Thank you for your inquiry regarding Yamaha product. This may be due to the HDCP keys within the BD player. HDCP keys are related to the copy protection within the HDMI connection and the amount of devices that sources can play to - in this case the BD player and the sat box. The BD player may only have one key while the sat box has multiple allowing it to pass through the receiver and the conversion box.

I ended up putting rca and playing the bluray through that. It sucks because I have a bluray player and cant watch it through HDMI but its okay we will get a new tv in a few years. So you cant do anything about HDCP i guess.
