yamaha receiver rx-v471

Well I just bought a new yamaha receiver rx-v471 and hook it Samsung TV? Used the HDMI cable to receiver and the TV. NO picture or sound? It worked fine with the on screen set-up of speakers and other set-up, radio works but not the TV?

Could be an HDCP handshake issue potentially. I know that for some setups I've seen the TV, receiver & set top box have to be powered on in a certain sequence for it to work properly. Have you tried powering on the TV, then the receiver and then the set top box?

Did you read your easy setup guide and owner manual?

Is there anything else connected other then the TV and receiver? If so how is it connected?

Also, have you verified that the HDMI cable you're using is good? As mentioned above, this could be an HDCP handshake issue. Sometimes flaky cables can result in handshake issues that result in zero sound/video. Just test it on a known working set up (e.g. your computer if HDMI-enabled or a friend's setup). You don't need super high end cables by any means. But sometimes that crap that comes with a receiver or BD player is so low end that problems can arise (assuming you're using a new cable that came with the receiver).

And as someone else posted, read through the manual carefully. There may easily be some setting that is wrong.

Finally, you should look up your receiver model on avsforum.com to see if anyone has reported similar problems over there.

YOu don't need a digital audio cable. The red and white one is fine. Make sure you selected the right input for the TV connection on the receiver. If it was working once, it should be working. Double check all of your settings on the receiver.
