Hi guys,

First off, I live in Halifax NS Canada and shops that sell a wide list of quality CDRW's are limited indeed. I don't see any new plexors or Teac or what not but I have narrowed it down to two drives that are good that they offer here. A quality cdrw ober 40x is hard to find here it seems:(

Some facts

1) Price is not a main concern with me I just want the best choice out of the two

2) I DO NOT want a media picky device!!! The one with best media support is a PLUS!! Different speeds as well

A local computer store here has a LITEON 48x12x48 IDE CD-RW for $105.00 canadian dollars

Futureshop in halifax has a YAMAHA CRW-F1E IDE CDR-W for $190.00 canadian dollars

Questions...

1) Which is best of the two if PRICE was no concern?

2) Is the software included with the yamaha cdrw worth the extra $85.00 canadian?

3) should I say screw them both and wait until someone here gets the new Lite on 52x24x52 cdrw?

I know both are good drives but I wonder which one is the best with the latest firmware? what would you guys choose in my situation?

I would go with the Lite-On because it will burn some newer copy protected games and music CDs that the yamaha won't.With new games being $50 a crack the original stays in the case and the kids get the backups!

I know the lite on is faster but I wonder if the features and software included with the yamaha is worth me spending an extra $85 dollars?

forget disc tatoo gimmick I mean the other features besides that...

I have Yamaha 3200S (SCSI version) and I'm extemely satisfied with it. The drive is extemely quiet and it reads every single CD, CD-R or CD-RW, including the cheapest ones, without any issues. I personally would go with Yamaha, especially considering the fact, how often does anybody burn their CDs at speed higher than 20x anyway? And if anybody does burn CDs at faster speeds, what difference does it make, 10 seconds? I'll be more than willing to give up 10 seconds of burning time for reliability of the drive.

i too would recommend the yamaha. i had a 3200ez and now i have the F1, and they have both been excellent drives. i have never had a media problem or a bad disc for that matter.

the liteon are good drives too. i have used them many times in systems that i have built. never had a problem with them either, but yamaha gets my vote.

this is probably one of the hardest decisions I had to make!!

I posted on 4 other forums and its hard for me to make a decision:(

This is what I know so far.....

1) both drives are good and reliable when it comes to burning all types of media and not media picky

2) the Lite on is faster and performs better in the speed category

3) the yamaha may not be as fast in burn speeds but it is feature packed and has top notch software included!!

note***** the disc tatoo feature is cool but I don't care about this

Ok so it basically, boils down to whether or not I want to spend $85 more dollars on the yamaha burner based on its features and software included out of the box....

hmmmm.........but then again what single feature if any could make the yamaha burner win out?

haha!!! I hate this:(

If price was no concern, I'd shell out the bucks for the Yamaha hands down!
It burns at an increasing rate and doesn't start/stop recording like the "zone" drives.
It has Audio Master for the highest quality.
It's quiet and stable.
Yamaha is my vote.

What other features does it have? None.. And it takes an average of 12 minutes to T@2 4-5 words on a CD.

Is this choice obvious to anyone else?

I want to burn cd's with mp3's I have on my computer. I don't plan on burning protected audio cd's. So the lite on seems the winner now:) You guys burn mp3's on your blank cdr media with no probs right? good sound quality?

check out cdrlabs.com for more info on both. but if you have the money, why not get the yamaha drive? you get more features (quiet, t@2, audio mastering), & they both burn cds. but if you're getting lite-on, at least get 48x24x48 if you can't wait for the 52 (which should be out really, really soon)
