Refurbished products hardly qualify for rebates. You probably get a brown or white box that does not have a UPC label.

How many times does the phrase "t@2" have to be mentioned in the post and in the link to make that apparent? In short, yes. :)

i spoke with yamaha customer support regarding the rebate. they told me no problem. if you check out the rebate form, it only discludes burners purchased from best buy and costco. i was also told that the burner would be shipped in a retail box.

hope all this is true.

peace.

P'haps the word 'used' should be somewhere in the thread title.

This model has that Laser labeling system but Yamaha also makes one of the highest quality CDRWs.
If you know about CDRWs, I got a question for you: for comparison's sake would you rather get a 52x Lite-On with no t@2 or the previous Yamaha model 24x with no t@2?

These aren't used-they are factory refurbished. As another poster allready did, I too called the rebate like AND Yamaha themselvves and both said they come in a retail box, JUST like you'd get in Best Buy/Circuit City, and they ARE eligable for the rebate!!! These drives sell for like $180 on eBay new-this is HOT!
To sum it up, I'm now the proud owner of a CRW-F1 :) I can sell my USB1 CDRW drive on eBay and pay almost nothing for this drive :)

All-right sir. Newegg uses the term 'refurbished' for parts that have been used and put up for sale again.
I was guessing that the only thing that was different here was that in addition to being used, unlike Newegg parts, these have been inspected before being resold.

So is it wrong to say that this is a good deal... for a used item?

I figured I'd post this here instead of a new thread:

I was in Costco today and saw the Yamaha CRW-F1ZUX external USB 2.0 for 89.97+tax. So after a little contempation I picked one up even though I don't really need another Writer. I guess they're dumping them, too bad no rebate :( Of course your local Costco has to have them (mine had 2, now 1) and I think this is their clearance price, so YMMV.

Everybody is gonna be dumping them as Yamaha announced a few weeks ago its getting out of the CDRW market.

don't get refurbished optical drives if possible. optics are very sensitive and if there was something wrong the first time it is likely there will be something wrong the next time around.

That makes the Costco deal even better because its new. But like I said too bad NO $30 rebate.

Don't forget YMMV, depends on if you Costco has them and is clearing them out.

Why is the rebate not good if you buy at Costco?
The only exception I see on the rebate form is Best Buy.
It's not in a retail box?

The rebate form that I saw stated that BB and Costco were excluded, unless you have a different one?

Here's the yamaha link:

actually, it can only tattoo where it is NOT written. so if you write data to the entire area of the disc, you can't tattoo it. still pretty darn cool.
