Yamaha CDR401 -- Why the huge price?

I was looking to buy my brother a cd burner for his birthday so I went to the web and started looking around for a cheap burner.

I found a place that sold the Yamaha CDR401 for about $115.00 but the strange thing is, everywhere else lists the price at $500+ (EVERYWHERE else, I cant find it under $500.00 and any other retailer). Even the website I found the cheap price at said that the drive retails at $600.

Why is this burner so expensive? Its only a 6x Read and 4x burn. Not even RW..

Other sites prolly never updated their site from when it came out...maybe it got beaten soon after it came out so they didn't sell many...just guessin'.

That is a very old burner, and has been discontinued for a long time. When it came out a few years ago, it did cost about $500. I can only assume that most retailers sold so few of them that checking up on current market price was not worthwhile.

Many software packages no longer support it. You'll get absolutely no support from yamaha for it. $115 is a high price for such an obsolete piece of equipment.
