Yamaha AW744 4 channel = 2 channel !!!???

I have a Yamaha AW744 sound card, which supports 4 channel sound. But all the drivers that I seem to find for Win 2000 support only 2 channels.

Which leads me to 2 questions.

1) Are there official/unofficial 4 channel WIN2kPro Drivers for my card?

and

2) I have AC'97 mobo soundcard (4 channel) should I switch to that? Will I lose gaming performance/sound quality?

I'm under the impression that the sound chip is relatively old. If that is, indeed, the case, I wouldn't see it a problem to switch to your onboard AC'97 sound. Frankly, I would pick up another sound card. If you're worried about paying too much $$, consider an OEM Audigy or Santa Cruz

YMF724/744 is way better than any chipset embedded AC97 audio.
Don't dump it unless your motherboard has Cmedia 8738 onboard.
