Yamaha does 8x write, 8x rewrite and 24x read (plus 24x audio file ripping)
HP does 10x write, 4x rewrite and 32x read, but costs about $50 more than Yamaha unit.
Considering the performance, compatibility, and reliability which one is better?😕
Either way you can't go wrong. I have an HP 9110i and love it, however the Yamaha's are also very slick. If the Yamaha is $50 cheaper I would go with that one, you shouldn't be disappointed.
Out of those two I would choose the Yamaha. It is significantly cheaper and also officialy supports 80 minute cds unlike the HP. I've also heard Yamaha is considered second best in cd burners only to Plextor.
