You probably also think that a p4 is so much better than an athlon because it's faster in Mhz.

The truth is is that these speakers are very good and well worth $95.88. I paid $230 for mine when they came out and have loved them ever since!

While this seems like an excellent price for this system, Anandtech's Own Review of this setup doesn't sound all that positive.

For those wondering about this versus the Z560, they are two very different systems. This is a 5.1 system with DD and DTS decoding; the Z560 is a 4.1 system with no decoding. However it appears that the Z560 may have more powerful speakers, but I'm extremely skeptical of Logitech's wattage ratings. It's hard to believe they could be so high for such inexpensive speakers. In any case trying to compare these two is an apples to oranges type scenario.

I ordered one: 125.88 - 5(5 off 35) = 120.88, less 30 = 90.88, no tax, free ground shipping.

As for $30 rebate:
Rebate is available only on end-user purchases made between 2/3/02 and 7/31/02. Your request must be postmarked by 8/15/02. Offer is void if the Rebate Certificate, original UPC panel, original ¡°Visit the Yamaha Website Today¡± flap, and original (or clean copy of) dated cash register receipt(s) are not included. Offer valid only on products purchased within the U.S. One rebate per household per product purchased. Offer expires 2 weeks after the date of purchase.

What is the meaning of "Offer expires 2 weeks after the date of purchase"? I ordered one on 04/28, but it is scheduled to deliver on 05/10. Am I eligible for the rebate? Look Your request must be postmarked by 8/15/02.. I am confused.

By the way, is it for sure that the box comes with the original ¡°Visit the Yamaha Website Today¡± flap?

If anybody tells me I won't get the rebate, I'll cancel the order. Thanks.

I have these speakers. Got them at the beginning of the year for $150 but in white. I like them. They allow you to have a cheap Dolby Digital and DTS solution (which is very cool), and when used with a PS2, it rocks. But then again, it's an all-in-one system, and a cheap one at that. It gets loud but not room shaking, over powering loud. Its perfect for PS2 games and DVD movies, but should not be used as the focal point for your home stereo system. I have my larger system upstairs so this package is the perfect compliment to my main system.

Other than lack of real excessive volume, the Yamaha package does suffer from a shortage of inputs. For digital connections, there are both coax and fiber optic connectors, but when you want to use the system in either 4-speaker or two-speaker mode, there are only two headphone jack connectors in the back (one for the front speaker, the other for the surround sound speakers). That's a big minus. Luckily, I had a stereo switch box and some connectors so that I could input different signals (from my Dreamcast and my satellite receiver) through these jacks. It's a hassle, though...unless you were just hooking up a couple of components strictly through the digital ports.

The only other complaint I have is lack of treble/bass controls. I might have away around this as well but it's still something I miss in the system. You do have separate volume controls for the center, subwoofer, and surround sound speakers.

Its not a bad sounding little system. I enjoy it, especially for the price and what it allows me to have out-of-the-box. I think that as a secondary system or a solution for someone who wants more kick to their games without going out and spending a ton, it's well worth the money.

By the way, if you can find the Kenwood 504 speakers system for a reasonable price, its the best packaged system for its price you'll find anywhere. I've never been a fan of Kenwood componenets but its a great little package, perfect for those who want a lot of bang for a little amount of money. Check out those reviews on audioreview.com.

Hope this helped...

I had these speakers for a while. For this price they are definitely worth it (I paid $165 about a year ago). I'm not sure about comparing to the z560s, as I've only heard the Logitechs inside a store. I think the Logitechs are sturdier and obviously more powerful, the big plus (to me) is that they use standard speaker wire vs. the attached wire on the Yamahas which look like 24-gauge and kind of flimsy (I never had a problem with them though). I think the Yamahas have a bit more definition in sound, the Logitechs seemed to exaggerate the bass more than the TSS-1, even with it turned down. If someone were to offer either one to me for free (dreaming) I would get the z560s. If I was considering price, watched DVDs on my computer and had a sound card w/digital out, or had a PS2 I would get the TSS-1.

I ordered the z560's last night before this deal, I hope I made a good decision. I got in on the free shipping that 2buystore had (accidently) going for about 20 minutes and paid $111.99 shipped. I had only heard great things, and I dont have a digital sound card anyway. Hope it works out.

People seem to assume you need a digital soundcard or PS2 to use these speakers. This isn't true. Any device, including most standalone DVD players, have the optical out that will run these speakers in Dolby 5.1 and THX. This is a cheap way to get pretty decent digital surround with your current DVD player. I have a similar set of Altec Lansing speakers with built in Dolby 5.1 decoder and amplifier. These speakers have never been plugged into my computer. I run them straight from my DVD player and they work pretty darn nice for the price.

I ordered a set of these, along with a Toshiba DVD player on clearance at Amazon. Instant home theater (for my small apartment).
