Awesome deal on the NEW yamaha 16x/10x/40x burner. Get the burner (that's in stock according to hypermicro.com) and a 50pk of 74min TDK media for only $260. Shipping with Fedex express saver (usually 3 days) is $274.95. Just the bare drive. No software included. If you need software, they have it packaged with software for $295 plus shipping. Here's the link. I thought it was a super deal since I already have cd recording software out the a**. Forgot to mention that you can $7.00 UPS ground shipping on this item as well.

I thought it was kinda high too until I saw it for $310 on Buy.com without the media. Onvia.com has it for $297. I guess if you used coupons, you could get for about the same price, but neither one has it in stock as of yesterday. So if someone wants to be the first on the block to get one they don't have a whole lot of places they can shop the price for it.

It will record 16x fast meaning about 5min for 74min music disc. 10x re-write on compatible media. 40x read and 40x audio ripping. Rip 74min worth of music in about 3min. It's the fastest drive made.

maybe it's just because 10x cdrw media is expensive and hard to find.

I have sony 8x rewrite and can hardly find those kind of media except sony brand.........bloody price tag.

This drive is 16X MAX write , not 16X true(A CLV vs CAV thing)... Still, it is very fast..

I think Samsung just came out with their TRUE 16X write, but it is only marginally faster. In fact, neither the yamaha nor the Samsung could break the 5 min. barrier due to laser calibrations and such..

Not a good deal at all, this drive was going for $269.99 when it first came out a few weeks ago. Currently amazon has this drive for $269 - $50 coupon + free shipping for a total of $219 shipped. If I were you, and you want this particular drive, buy it from amazon and take advantage of this coupon. Then buy your 50 pack of media for less than $20 if you shop around.

Oh and also, you should probably know that TDK, Plextor, Sanyo, and Samsung all have 16x burners coming out which are TRUE 16x write drives, instead of variable 16x like the Yamaha. Not a huge speed improvement, however, for those who want the best, wait. =)

Great find Divinemartyr. Is the free shipping a coupon? I went to the site but shipping was gonna be $4.99 (ain't much but every bit helps!).

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the media that ESQ linked to at pcclub.com.

Insomniac No, however www.cdrinfo.com has some of these upcoming announcements, as well, they recently tested either the Sanyo or Samsung, whichever it was, was a true 16x, not variable burn 16x like the Yamaha.

Y22KC I thought free shipping was something they were doing for the holidays, but maybe I was mistaken, not really sure. Check around on some of the other sites though to find out for sure.
