YAM(obile)T: 1 yr. or 2 yr. plan?

ndee

Lifer
I wanna get the Sony Ericsson K700 and I don't know with which plan to go. When I go with the 1yr plan, the mobile costs $300, with the 2yr plan $200. I'm going to study this fall so I won't have any money to get me a new mobile in the next 3 years anyway so.... With which plan would you go?

Thanks in advance!

well the k700 is definitely a step up. it's an awesome phone, but i have a problem with:

1. signing a 2 yr contract
2. paying $300 for a phone

i haven't yet signed a 2 yr contract, but i did buy the t68i when it was first available, and spent $320 on it. i will never do that again. i would say to wait. i got the t610 2 or 3 months after it was released for just $90 w/ a 1-year contract. at the time, it was the best phone available IMO. it all comes down to personal preference. i'm looking for the following in my next phone:

1. at least a 1mp camera w/ video+flash
2. bluetooth
3. >32mb memory
4. speakerphone
5. mp3 quality ring tones
6. >160x200 screen resolution

and i want it for less than $150. so based on that, my answer to your poll is C, none of the above. but that's just me.

you're getting suckered if you're paying that much for a phone while signing a 2 year contract.

5. mp3 quality ring tones
you are aware that mp3 is not a standard for sound quality, but is a compression scheme, right? i can make a pretty crappy sounding mp3

While on the subject of cell phones... I am gonna be getting a new phone soon, and I want to get a phone that I can download MIDIs and get on my phone... Is that even possible and if it is what do I look for while shopping for phones???

my t610 can do that. you just need a way to transfer the midi onto the phone. i had a bluetooth capable notebook, so i just transferred files that way. but you can also use the infrared port or optional USB cable.

dmurray14: Swisscom 🙂
theNEOone: That was the first problem too but I know that I won't change it. After 9 month(1yr. contract, 21month 2yr. contract), I could get another phone when I go with the 1yr. contract but that's definitely not what I want because:
1. Won't have the money.
2. If I then go again with a 1 yr plan, it costs again more, etc.

Actually, I don't need a camera at all but I just love a nice display so that's actually the reason I'm going with that phone plus it looks quite okay compared to some other models.

ElFenix: It's one of the newest mobiles and that's the absoult cheapest price I can get for this mobile.

Do you know if that service is any good where you're going to school? if you think its good then go w/ the 2 year. if you're not sure id stick w/ the 1 year. My roommate got a phone that has grreat reception in florida but back here in NC its total crap. But he can't pull out since he signed a 3 year contract.

Mo0o: That's the best net we got here in Switzerland 🙂

M4H: I would if I could but when I get a NEW phone, I'm sure as hell not getting the SAME phone again 😉

amazon is running a promo where you MAKE $175 on the SE t610 - sell it on ebay and buy an unlocked phone with the profits.

check out FW for more details

I personally like going with a 1 year plan, but if you like the carrier 2 isn't horrible. Side question: what is a good site to find out about different phones, current, new and future? I remember going to one, but I can't remember what it was.
