So I bought Crysis 3 (on sale, of course), solely to play the single player and finish out the trilogy. Crysis 2 was a big letdown compared to C1 in basically every aspect, but I was hopeful, and frankly I'm too slow to play most FPS games nowadays, though I do ok at BF3.
Anyway, Crysis 3 is not nearly as big as Crysis 1, but is far bigger, and more importantly, far less linear than Crysis 2. I'm very happy that you have the option to take many routes and explore many playstyles. I'm playing in the second hardest difficulty, and it's challenging without being painfully hard. I've died quite a few times, sure, but I'm fairly confident that beating the hardest game mode wouldn't be too bad, either (i mostly play sniper/assassin with occasional spots of run/gun).
The story, for all it's worth, is barely passable . I didn't like the "twists" they added, especially given the departure from Crysis 1 (where the aliens were still aliens and not semi-humanoid bipedals), but least I can follow it, unlike Crysis 2.
Dear god do I wish there were a quicksave key (apparently there's a mod to add it)
The graphics are excellent, and there are some truly fantastic moments that may even surpass Crysis 1 in some aspects.
The MUSIC - EXCELLENT!!!! The music is incredibly well done and adds greatly to the environment, whether it's stealth play or "oh shit I just woke up all the enemies in a massive radius"
Weapons - the Typhoon is pretty kickass. And the bow, for all of its hype, lives up to it, in my opinion. Playing as an assassin, I felt like I was striking fear into the AI units by picking them off one by one.
Suit Mods - some are useful, some aren't. I picked two stealth enhancers, and that's really all I cared about. Other ones I've used include faster power regen, improved radar/scope, and improved heavy armor. I still have like 20 points to unlock the other mods, but I really don't care.
I'm getting close to the end, and the only gameplay element that has truly disappointed me so far are some of the objectives - take out certain buildings/units (x3) and save people along the way (x2). in some respects it feels like filler to extend the game rather than having a larger, longer assault on a single objective (THIS IS WHERE QUICKSAVE IS IMPORTANT).
Worth $15? So far, to me, despite C3's shortcomings, yes. To many others, I would say it's a $10 or $5 buy, but I'm thoroughly enjoying it.
