Completely ignorant and disrespectful. This was a protest to an email the guy's wife (also a prof at Yale) sent out saying not to be so damned sensitive about Halloween costumes.

See here for the text of the email

The girl even goes on to state that their jobs at Yale isn't supposed to be about creating an intellectual space but rather making it feel like a home. She's going to have a tough time when she tries to get employed in the real world. The whole culture of being offended over every little thing has got completely out of hand. Glad that the professor didn't back down, and their really needs to be a collective backlash from higher ed staff against the push to censor anything that may offend anyone.

She won't have a problem in the professional space. Why? Because other millennials will protect her and/or she will just claim a hostile work environment.

The first time she tried to pull that a place of work she would get fired... Given how large the group was I think the professor handled himself the best as one could expect from such situations.

I'm pretty sure at the university I went to if someone tried to pull what that individual was doing they would have been expelled.

How disturbed does one need to be for “I believe the most qualified person should get the job.” to be considered aggressive?

There is only thing that can be done for someone like the woman in the videos - euthanasia.

Somebody coined the term "Cry-Bully" to describe her.

Wow...the girl shouting at him - I just wanted to punch her in the face.
These people are insane - the email is clearly addressed to insane folks, carefully trying to avoid offending them.

When are they going to stop with this "I'm offended by life" bullshit? What happened to intellectual honesty and common sense?

Obviously the student should just carry a concealed fire-arm then she and all other students in the vicinity would be safe....

Another hyper-sensitive drama queen making a fool out of herself over nothing. I like how in protesting about not feeling safe, she takes off her backpack steps closer to the guy while waving her arms around and shouting at him! She's actively trying to intimidate him! My safety matters! Fuck yours!

Get help little girl, it's only funny watching holy rollers freak out about Halloween. When the self-righteous indignation comes from fear it looks more like a mental condition and that's just plain ol sad.

Also, learn some respect or one of these days the real world is going to hit you like a bus. Then you'll be upset and feel unsafe.

I'm confused. o_O

So, the University sends out an email that says, "Please don't wear any costume that might be considered offensive to anyone for any reason."

A professor sends out a reply emails that says, "Let's also remember, these are adults. Let's be careful to not trample on free speech, as well."

The professor's husband then gets accosted on campus by this yelling woman for that email? That she doesn't feel safe?

Is that right?

Meh, I'll still take a generation that's overly impassioned for the consideration of others vs. a generation defending willful inconsideration regardless if the arguments are loudly shouted or well written. And that email reaks of being written by someone who never encountered a Halloween costume that's a caricature of herself.

We were just talking about how debate has completely changed because everyone is afraid to give their views on topics. It's gotten downright pathetic, and I don't know what the answer is because the first response is:

1. Back down.
2. Admit defeat
3. Admit you did the wrong thing, and we will never do it again and will always make sure you sensitive people don't get butt-hurt again.

It's completely tearing down the fabric of society. No one can talk to eachother anymore because you might offend someone that is 4 feet behind you.

Oh man, I've only been out of university for around 3 years and I never experienced this type of thin skinned insanity. I had a philosophy teacher that would target Christians and try to get them to acknowledge god is illogical. People cried. He was known for that, but never did anyone try to get him fired. It was part of getting out of high school and into the real world.

We had costume days too and I remember one class where we rated the offensiveness of the costume. I liked most of them but the one with Steven Irwin with a manta ray sticking through him (it had happened only a few months prior.) I didn't demand he take it off. I just noted that I didn't care for it and moved on with my day.

I highly doubt this movement is common within a large part of the university. I think these are fringe students. But the bad part is that no school wants to be "offensive" or "insensitive" so instead of fighting it, they will likely give in.
