Yet another job thread:
I called my workplace (a restaurant, I work in the kitchen part time once per week) last week about when I was next going to be working. They called back and said "not this weekend, but call back next weekend about working the weekend after that". That was last week. THe sunday morning shift goes from 8-3, the person who always schedules me (my boss) works that shift. I call at 1:45 today (sunday), and he has left. He's not coming in 'til Thursday. I'm not on the schedule for next week. Over the past month, I have worked once. At the beginning of the fall, they asked how much I'd be able to work, I told them sundays. They agreed, and said that would work out well. For two weekends, I was unable to work and I left a note saying I couldnt a week before, or I called ahead (one time I hurt my hand the night before, and called ahead and said I couldnt work). After that, they started shafting me as far as hours go, and now we have the current situation described.
What should I do? I feel like I need to ask my boss next time we talk about my work hours, obviously. Should I ask what he can provide for me, and from there, make a decision? I really dont want to lose this job, because it pays well, and the hours I work (when I work) are perfect for me. I can basically only work during the days on weekends.
If it turns out I need to leave this job, would asking for a positive reference be out of line? Where should I look for a new job that will provide similar hours/wage?
