Accountants are what they are looking for. If you're a CPA with a MAcc and have worked at a top firm then you're probably "in", especially if you can speak more than one language. Of course, you'll be making 1/3 of what you could at a private firm.

then why would u work there? do you get free murders as benefits every year?

depends what you want to do, but if you want to be an intelligence analyst, you'll need more skills than an BIS degree, and need to speak more than just english.. you could possibly find another job in the fbi though.. just apply, doesn't hurt.. by the way, you can absolutely not have taken any illegal drugs in the past 10 years.. not one puff of marajuana, or one tab of X... nothing.. it'll also help that you have a 3.0 gpa or higher, otherwise they'll put you at a lower pay grade... from what i understand, all federal employees get a pay grade promotion (10k/year) every year until they max out their pay grades at their level... it's a damn good deal if you can get it

It is much more exciting than being a charted accountant. Unless you want to be a lion tamer.

If you are really that interested in it, there is a book you will want to pick up or at least read. John Douglas, the Special Agent who got their Profiling department up and running wrote a book on how to make yourself look better to the FBI when applying for a job. Also, if you have ANY criminal history, whether you have every been caught for any of it. If you have commmited a crime, regardless of ever being caught, you will have a MUCH reduced change of getting in, now I don't mean running red lights and speeding, but anything even close to or at the felony level will get you kicked RIGHT out.

Wrong, wrong, so terribly wrong.

He might have been thinking NSA.

Even if he was, WRONG!

None of the angencies work like that, everyone of them lists their jobs with some job search engine, usually USAjobs.gov

Simply not true. You've not a clue what you are talking about. Not only can you apply easily, but they have tons of recruiting events in which you can walk in, talk and discuss the job, and then simply apply like any other job. Of course, the process is more arduous than most other jobs, but you can still apply. Same goes for the CIA.

To the OP, it depends on what your degree is in. The FBI has moved more away from hiring those with Criminal Justice experience into hiring attorneys, accountants, and other white-collar degree recipients to further their "new" look.

Before you decide on applying, what exactly are you wanting to do? If it is Law Enforcement work and you've no experience, then don't expect to go to Quantico and come out as an HRT member. If you want to go LE with the FBI, then some experience is a must...

I'm interested in becoming an Intelligence Analyst. They have a video advertisement where they say they're looking for Intelligence Analysts, but when I searched through their current job listings, there were no positions to be found at the moment.

I thought the IA positions at the FBI were fairly new. You also might want to consider the CIA or NSA or any of the other intelligence agencies. http://www.intelligence.gov/0-community_vacancies.shtml

I wonder if I would qualify... Im a US citizen but apart from that I talk 4 languages fluently (Im guessing none of them are in high demand) and study accounting althought not as a major. How long do you have to be US citizen?

I'm not sure if you matters how long you've been a citizen, but you will be subjected to a background investigation probably going back 10 years or so. Your immediate family should also be citizens, but I'm not too sure about that.

This chick where I worked was always bragging about how she was gonna get a job at the FBI, she put in an application, and some guy came to our office and interviewed her. I was in the cube next to her while the guy was interviewing her, and I could tell she BOMBED it, she kept giving generic answers and avoiding questions about her actual skills.

Now she thinks she'll get rich from Mary Kay or Amway 😕

I turned down a job with the FBI in December of 2004. I applied for an IT Analyst position back in January/February of 2004 and in that time, managed to land a job locally at a nearby Army installation as a GS-11, 2210 Series. The application was one of the longest and most detailed I've ever submitted. If I remember correctly, the application packet itself was about 12 pages long all told. They required an extensive amount of narrative answers to a variety of questions. My background prior to applying was about 1-year of college, 9 years of Army Reserve time as a Military Policeman and about 7 years in an IT environment. I put it out there as a long shot thinking that with no degree, I'd never get a call.

In December (nearly a year later), they called me and offered me a job in Clarksburg, WV as a GS-9. I turned it down because I had just adopted a 5-year old girl, I was going to college and I was already a GS-11 for the Department of the Army. It pained me to turn them down and I tossed and turned for days after telling them "no", but in the end I think it was the right decision. In short, they offered me a job and I had no degree and no foreign language experience. I had skills that they desired though (federal law enforcement, military background and extensive IT skills). Goverment pay scales can be found here:

The above is incorrect:
FBI Drug Policy

Woah. They accept you even if you've done Marijuana, just not more than 15 times or more in the last three years of your life. I guess verified with a Lie Detector Test?!?

it's easier to get a job with a big software giant, imo, than with the FBI. i had my congressman inquire as to possible openings at the FBI for me and i still didn't hear back, and i applied well over a year ago (not that i'm looking now, but anyway).

you can't apply until you are 23, as you may or may not know, and you're basically signing away your life to them for two years of training in this strange city in virginia.

you'll be weighted more heavily than other applicants if you have certain qualifications, such as foreign language skills. even then, however, you might want to consider jobs in the military (civilian jobs work too) to gain skills that will ultimately put you even farther than comparable applicants.

don't put all your eggs in one basket. consider applying for the FBI, but apply elsewhere as well. i don't have extensive experience in the area, but i don't know anyone else who applied to the FBI get a callback -- there are a hell of a lot of applicants for such few positions.

You can get a job in there as a computer geek but you could not be a G-Man.

I applied to the CIA a couple of years ago for an intelligence position just for the heck of it. Within a week, I got a call from them and went through a phone interview. After the phone interview, they offered me a face to face interview, but I didn't go through without and chickened out. I think they wanted me to spy on China.
