Anybody have any experience with this (It's a tech position), and can lend some insight? I don't want to say "hey I am looking for XXX" when they are willing to pay XXX+X, if you get what i'm saying. I just want some ideas on how NOT to lowball myself and put myself in a corner. Or, how to avoid them lowballing me.

Thanks!

"I've done some research in the local market and $xxxx seems to be the going rate for this type of position. I would anticipate my salary to reflect both the market rate and what I bring to the table in terms of experience and skill set."

"let me write a number down on this napkin and you tell me what you think..."

employer wipes butt with it

"ok let me right another number down..."

Let them make you an offer of XXXX and then if it seems too low, let them know you were hoping to get something more like YYYY. THen hope they don't give the job to someoe else for the XXXX that you turned down.

It only works if you're a real asset to the company, but if you're not getting what you HONESTLY deserve (none of this "where's my six figures" crap), then you need to be prepared to walk.

It's really as simple as that.
