So I got a job offer from a company that pays pretty well. Full time position, yet Im still going to school. Job looks great, except its a 45 minute job. I have 24 hours to accept and take drug test. However, there is another company that I interviewed with a few weeks ago and on Monday they called to do a background check on me. Said it normally takes ' a week or two, but lately its been around a week' to get the results back, at which time they would call me back to make an offer. Not sure if this location will be closer or not, but it may, and the pay may be similar. It is a part-time position though (which may be better while I'm at school).

So now the dilemma? What do I do? Accept the first job and if I get a better offer from the 2nd just quit? Call the 2nd job now and try to get them to give me an offer, or atleast the details on one now? Just take the first job and not look back?

Oh, as for the first job, they said after 6 months I can apply to transfer to a closer location, which would be nice.

So how far do you guys drive to work? Is 45 minutes of mostly highway driving to far?

I drive about 25-30 miles to work. About 60 miles round trip. I also go through a $2 toll both ways, for a total of $4 a day.

I'll hit hitting 4.50 in tolls. Similar drive just a slight bit further. How bad is it?

10 min for me to get there. i used to have a job that required a 45 min drive to get there and i got sick of driving 1 hr and 1/2 each day and made a point of getting one closerby.

IM not sure if you're familiar with 95 in the Baltimore, DC area. But my drive isnt that bad on it. It's about 35 minutes each way, but thats only because I avg. about 80mph. What sucks is that I also drive 30 minutes to school. So, somedays, Im going 25 miles to work, 25 miles back, 30 miles to school, then 30 miles back.

I live 10 miles from where I work and I ride my bicycle to work twice a week. Been commuting by bike a couple days a week for almost a year now.
