Walk into work, get pulled into the VP's office and handed my severance package information. Packed up and sitting at home after heading out and returning a few items I've purchased recently from places that I could.

What a crappy way to start a weekend.

lol, first time I've ever been time warped.. that was wierd...

Good luck out there.

I survived some deep cuts that where made today, current job is going to suck ass moving forward but at least I still have a paycheck, but a lot of people at my company are out of a job now. :(

Job loss always sucks, but look at the bright side, you got severance! A lot of people got nothing when their business went out of business. Good luck!

Was working for the past few years at Reynolds and Reynolds which sells software to car dealerships around the world. Car dealerships are hurting and they've been scaling back for a few months now so I knew it might be coming despite all the assurances that my department wouldn't be cutting.

I was working as a software developer doing c/c++ and a little bit of everything else that needed doing from c# on occasion to even cobol for some of the older apps.

Sorry to hear your bad news. Try to maintain your previous work schedule as you do your job search. Procrastination can kill you.

My parents were trying to rent out their house because they are too old to maintain it (its a large house) and they found a renter. The renter and his family made the security deposit but a day later the bread winner of the family lost his job at Boeing. They came over with their kids and cried while asking to back out and to get their deposit back. My parents gave back the money etc. because its pointless to rent to someone who can't afford it anyways.

Now my parents are in a bad situation though. A few months earlier my mother had a stroke and before that my dad was having severe heart issues. The stroke and heart issues created a substantial financial burden and rendered them less fit to take care of the large house etc. They want to sell / rent out the large house obviously to get more money in each month but the market is still no good. One of our neighbors bought his house a year ago for about $600,000 but just sold it for $530,000 because he had to move for his job.

My parents also own a smaller house we were renting out but due to the renters market our tenants demanded a lower rent that my dad didn't want to give into so they moved out. Now were stuck trying to rent out either house. Were probably going to have to move to the smaller house but the move while it may allow us to get more money each month may end up causing more stress than is tolerable. The move is also necessary because in order for us to sell the small house without capital gains tax we have to live there for 2 years.

I'm worried that once we move out we won't be able to sell or rent the large house and we will be in a worse situation. The smaller house seems easier to rent and does not require us to move. There isn't a best solution for this. The only good news was that my Dad's heart issues have cleared up thus far.

Yet Another Job Got Cut Thread? Huh?

Edit: Eff me, must start reading sub-titles.

Good luck man, I just got out of your situation, and don't want to ever go back.

Time to return to the office with a cache of guns.

I hope this is a time warp and you are not the OP. :Q

yah it was a time warp...

On a side note, just finished filling out unemployment and I must say, since the Texas Work force commission went to all online, it's MUCH easier to do this.

As for the severance package all I got was 1 months pay basically on top of what I'll get for my last paycheck and my vacation time payout.
