YAJ(ogging)T: Keep getting blisters...

So I run 11km 2-3 times a week. When I was running outside, I never really had an issue. Now, since it's November, and I live in Canada, and it's minus eleventy billion degrees outside, I've been going to the gym and using the treadmills. Since I started doing this, I've been getting NASTY blisters on both feet/toes. I've tried different/new shoes, but to no avail.

It's really frustrating because I really like running. I got a bad one on my left foot last Saturday, so I took a week off to let it heel, and tried running again today. Sure enough, I got one today on my right foot. I had to stop running after 30 min.

Any other joggers have this problem? How do you deal with it? Am I running wrong or something?!? I can't figure out why I never had this problem jogging outside...

Never had blister problems myself, but my girlfriend has and she swears by these two-ply socks she gets at the running store. On longer runs (+10miles) she adds some body glide to her feet, it's supposed to really help.

I have no idea why you'd have issues indoor.

Well I picked up some two-ply socks today, as well as some 'Body Glide' (which kind of looks like deodorant...but for your feet). It is supposed to help moisturize your feet or something.

Anyway, I guess I will find out how well these 2 things will work when I go running Thursday morning...

Only blisters that I've ever gotten while running were on my big toes... I couldn't feel them, so I just kept running and peeled them as needed.

Running on a tread really messes with your form. You lose some of the normal gait that you have running on a fixed surface. For one, you are limited in width of running area, and for another you have a belt that makes you change the way your foot lands and your push off.

You might be making some "hot spots" on your feet that you normally aren't used to hitting and that friction is causing the blisters.

I used to run on my treadmill and found I was getting blistgers and smashing my toe funny. I ended up losing the nail on one on toes because of it. You need to get good socks, keep your feet clean, dry as much as possible, and make sure you have proper fitting shoes. You may also want to start running on the track at your gym if they have one instead.
