So as some of you know I had my gallbladder hacked out a few years ago. Sucker was giving me problems so it had to go. Everything went well with that surgery, until about a year later when I noticed a big lump 2 inches up and to the right from the bellybutton incision. Went to the doc and was given the bad news. Ventral Hernia that will only get bigger with time. Doc told me it was safe to ignore as long as it wasn't sore. Once it gets sore, she told me to come in again for a reevaluation.

Fast forward until a couple weeks ago - hernia has started to hurt like crap every time I eat, exercise, or think of touching my wife. Go back to my doc, who refers me to a general surgeon (same one that did my gallbladder). And VOILA! I'm scheduled to go under the knife again on Friday.

Anyone here have a surgically repaired ventral hernia? If so, how bad was the recovery? The surgery is supposed to be relatively straightforward but I've heard the recovery can be a bitch. As in a couple weeks of sitting on my ass.

Cliffs:
OP is old as fuck and needs surgery to repair a ventral hernia
OP wants to know how bad the recovery is.
ATOT bitches betta have OP's money... er... knowledge.

I had an inguinal hernia repaired about two years ago. That's near the groin so not entirely the same thing, but in both cases they have to screw around with abdominal muscles, which sucks.

I walked with a cane for a few months, except in the first month when I really didn't walk at all. I was 24 at the time, so you might be in for a bad time. Still, I was able to work in the last half of my recovery, I just had to drive the bus with my left foot since the repair had been on the right side and it hurt to hold that leg up for very long. Yeah, good times.
