UPDATE: Fox 4 has identified the teacher under investigation as Michelle Preston, a third-year psychology and world geography instructor. The station cites Lenexa and Overland Park police. Read the rest of the update after the jump ...
Original Story: Get ready for a chorus of "luckiest boy in the world." A female teacher at Shawnee Mission West High School is accused of carrying on an inappropriate relationship with a student.
The unnamed teacher has been placed on administrative leave, and the school alerted the Overland Park Police Department, so they're investigating, according to KMBC Channel 9. We don't know exactly what happened, and really, there isn't more out there than hallway rumors.
KCTV5 reported that the allegations were the talk of the halls. Duh. This is high school.
"Oh, everybody's talking about it," junior Alex Helay told KCTV5. "This makes our school look bad."
Bet everyone in the metro would like to know what they're saying.
UPDATE: Fox 4 reported that Michelle Preston was in the hospital after a vehicle she was driving went off an embankment in Miami County. She was reportedly airlifted to a local hospital, and her condition is unknown. The TV station also reported that authorities served a warrant at the teacher's Lenexa home on Monday afternoon.
Preston's bio on the Shawnee Mission West website says:
My name is Michelle Preston and this is my third year teaching Psychology I, AP Psychology, and World Geography at Shawnee Mission West.
I grew up in Lansing, KS and graduated from Lansing High School. I have a bachelor's degree in History and Secondary Education from Baker University. I will complete my master's degree in Education from Baker this spring. I have also added a Psychology certification through Emporia State University. I live in Lenexa with my husband, Travis (a 2002 SMW graduate), and our pets: a greyhound named Gibson and a cat named Slugger.
I love teaching at West as well as coaching Freshman Cheer!
