YAHT: Good site where I can get records on how much houses went for in a certian area

Looking into buying my first house, and want to know what houses went for in certian neighborhoods.

I'v heard that this is public data, can I get this anywhere on the net?

p.s. i'v googled and found some skechy pages but none concrete.

It depends on where you live. In Maryland, the Department of Assessment and Taxations provides this for free. You can look for something similar in your area:
http://sdatcert3.resiusa.org/rp_rewrite/index.asp

Also, any real estate agent can access the sales database in your area.
