This info came in an newsletter I receive:

Yahoo has announced an agreement to buy Overture, in a cash-and-stock deal valued at $1.6 billion. The purchase is expected to close by the end of the year.

In addition to Inktomi, which Yahoo already aquired in March of this year, the purchase of Overture will also give them Alta Vista and the Fast (AllTheWeb) search engines which Overture purchased this past April. It looks as if all the majors, with the exception of Google, are being consolidated under Yahoo's umbrella and this will put even more pressure on Microsoft to do something. They may try to outbid Yahoo for Overture or they may renew efforts to buy Google which was rumored some time ago.

I don't even know how google made its way to the top so fast. I mean, when the net was starting and even a few years after that it was basically yahoo leading with excite and other engines pretty close behind.

Then, all of a sudden google was being mentioned by all these people and now everyone uses it. I used to always use yahoo until a couple years ago.

So i think if Microsoft is smart they should buy out google! They can call it MS Google!
