I know most of you here are die hard Google users. They're usually my first search engine choice too, but I also use FAST, Teoma and Wisenut a good bit.

Yahoo has been using spider-based search engine results for years to backup search results for its human-compiled directory. Google has actually been feeding their backup results for awhile now, but they were usually buried on a separate page behind the directory results on generic searches so many people didn't notice. Now, Google results will be moved up onto the first page blended with Yahoo directory results.

It's interesting to note that Yahoo also has a financial stake in Google. While I love Google, in a way I was kind of hoping one of the other spider-based engines might get the contract if for no other reason than competition. Google now feeds Yahoo and AOL (not to mention themselves.) And many of the other spider-based engines have closed the relevancy gap with Google and now offer Google-quality results themselves (Search Engine Perfect Page Test.) So the dropoff in search quality from Google is nowhere near what it used to be. Still, this is good news for users of Yahoo. You can get Yahoo's peronalization and content and still get predominantly Google search results.
