It's not how much it's worth right now, but it's how Yahoo will use it to make all those money back plus more. i.e. advertising based on our hobbies, interests, and our activities.

*bump*

This is starting to sound like all but a done deal now.

I've never used the service, but I've heard good things in comparison to MySpace. More structured, more organized, less chaotic ('a more mature MySpace' is how one co-worker characterized it.)

Names and detailed registered user data are worth a TON to potential advertisers who otherwise have to target based on much broader (and less relevant/accurate) data. This is one area where Yahoo already excels thanks to its large user base. If they can get even a fraction of their current users to start using Facebook services the advertising benefits would be immense.

There's also a lot of rumors going around that they've shown interest in YouTube. But supposedly nobody wants to pay YouTube's $1.5 billion asking price. I always thought YouTube would be an ideal fit under Yahoo, but it's also just as likely Yahoo will try to take Flickr to the next level by adding video services.
