Yahoo mail/javascript/connection problem

I've got a problem that started about 1.5 months ago, after Yahoo added the "Chat & Mobile Text" (which stays stuck on "Loading..." and the Cancel button does nothing, but those are different problems that I don't care about), blue box that's between the standard mail Folders, and the My Folders. I'm using their classic mail, but I'm pretty sure I tried the all-new mail, and the same thing happened. What does happen is that once I load the main yahoo mail page, after logging in, I have no more internet connection for strangely what seems to always be exactly 1 hour. Also, oddly, even Internet Explorer no longers works during that time. I've tried deleting cache, yahoo cookies, and java download/cache. I think I have different extensions installed on each (and not many).

To prevent this from happening in the first place, I can disable Javascript, but this obiously isn't practical. Or I can login to yahoo mail with IE.

This is on my PC at work. It does not happen on my PC at home. Both are using Firefox 3.0.11 (however the one with the problem is Firefox Portable, but history and cache are enabled). I'm wondering if my employer has some sort of block when it sees anything trying to connect to a chat, it cuts your internet for 1 hour.

I created a JavaScript blacklist for yahoo, as described here, but for some reason the blacklist only works (and I don't have the main problem) in safe mode.

Any idea how to fix this (other than using another mail provider)?

Something like that is probably going on. I can't think of anything on your PC or at the Yahoo side of things that could be causing this, so it must be something in between: either your companie's LAN or ISP. You'll probably have to contact your local network admins to figure out what's goin on.

Beware of the Google Toolbar. Try disabling it. Google makes lousy software. I have had fewer crashes after getting rid of my Google Search Bar.

Maybe you can also try updating to Sun's Java and see if that makes a difference. We have a product at work that we use on Blazernet that does not like the Google Toolbar. They seem to be incompatible.

I don't have google toolbar installed. I only have the toolbar that comes with Firefox (where google can be selected), which I don't think can be disabled (without file editing). Also from what I've read and been told, Java has nothing to do with javascript.

Thankfully Firefox 3.5 fixed the problem, I guess because of it's new TraceMonkey javascript engine.

Strange thing though, before trying FF 3.5, I tried IE7 on another PC of my employers, at a different location, and logging into Yahoo mail would freeze the internet on that PC for an hour. Whereas remember it was only IE7 that WOULD work on my work PC (and FF 3.0.xx would freeze).

Unfortunately it's not. It doesn't hang up anymore, but my emails are blank. Also when I try to go to mail options, it says I have javascript disabled (it's enabled). Heck, maybe since the javascript isn't working is why it's not hanging up anymore.
