Yahoo Mail in Firefox

I have Yahoo Mail set as my default email, but it loads in Internet Explorer. Is there a way to set my Yahoo Mail as my default email but have it load in Firefox? Firefox is set as my default browser, but IE still loads when I hit "mailto:" links. Thanks.

Are you using the Yahoo! tool that does this? If so, according to this writeup, it's working as intended:

When you click an email address on the web, a new Internet Explorer window opens your Yahoo! mail page where the From: and To: addresses are prefilled. Based on your Yahoo! settings, you may need to log in first. An Internet Explorer window will also open if you click a mail link in a different browser such as Firefox.

Not that I know of, assuming you want something that registers all "mailto:" links to the Yahoo! Email engine, with pre-filled sender/receiver information. Sounds like an ActiveX-only thing to me. *shrug*

Is there a way to manually modify what "mailto:" does in Windows? Is there some low-level thing I can adjust to hopefully get it work?

Well, I'm way out of my realm here, but I would assume that the registry entry for "mailto:" simply links to an application, then passes in the address to that application in a standard format.

The reason (I imagine) that Yahoo! requires a special app is so that it can:

a) Launch IE
b) Populate the appropriate web-fields from the "mailto:" link

I can't imagine that it would be too terribly difficult for someone to make an application that simply replaces "a)" with "Launch FireFox/Opera/etc."

But no, I don't imagine Windows proper would have a setting to both launch an application, then pass in the address in a non-standard format.

But have you looking into this? --> Text (and, ultimately, this?)

Well, if I could write a stand-alone program or a script, I could have that stand-alone program or script pass the appropriate variables via the GET method to Yahoo via Firefox. That's why I'd like to know how to manually change that program behavior.

Neat, but just FYI, the second link doesn't support my newer version of Firefox.
