BUCHAREST (Reuters) - A Romanian couple named their son Yahoo as a sign of gratitude for meeting over the Internet, a Bucharest newspaper said Thursday.
Daily Libertatea said Cornelia and Nonu Dragoman, both from Transylvania, met and decided they were meant for each other following a three-month relationship over the net.

They married and had a baby this Christmas, whom they decided to name after one of the worldwide web's most popular portals. "We named him Lucian Yahoo after my father and the net, the main beacon of my life," Cornelia Dragoman was quoted as saying.

I wonder what his wife had to say about that!

A few years ago, some illiterate peasant in Romania named his newborn daughter Nicoleta Vacaroiu. He apparently thought that if he names his daughter after the then-prime minister, Nicolae Vacaroiu, he can convince the dignitary to be his daughter's godfather, and lavish her with presents. Considering the name Vacaroiu is a nasty-sounding word, meaning approximately "Cowboy", Yahoo is almost mild, since it doesn't mean anything in Romanian.

Also, gipsy families in that region are quick to name children after the "phenomenon du jour", so in the 70's there were many boys called d'Artagnan, Zorro and Belmondo, and now they're using TV soap operas as the latest source of inspiration.

What did Einstein say about the universe and human stupidity?
