My friend got yahoo sbc dsl service. He installed the software and now his machine is slow as a fat kid trying to ride a bike uphill. It was ok before and now he get tons of spyware and ad-aware doesn't help. He get search bars on IE and stuff.

Is this becasue of Yahoo sbc crapware or something esle? Updated virus pattern and no viruses detected.

was working on a machine with this software last weekend. I don't know if it was the software or something else but it ran like a crippled obese great grandma. I had to do the old format: C

Yahoo DSL software is garbage. I was forced to install it to create a username and password though. I created a system restore point before installing it, then used it right after creating a username and password.

i used ghost to make a ghost image before i used the software to sign up. then i restored my untouched windows image after all login ifno was aquired.

This web page has information especially for users with Windows XP "to get started using your new SBC Yahoo DSL account and bypass the installation CD which takes extra time and resources installing things and collecting information that you may not want or want to release."

On the bottom, there's a link (https://sbcreg.sbcglobal.net) that will allow you to register the username and password for the account. This can be done if someone has other means of internet access such as a dial-up account (like I had) or internet access at work. I did it before receiving the DSL equipment, and saw that my account was active by using SBC's dial-up service.

of course it's crap. you should NEVER install the software that comes w/ an ISP unless you have to, like AOL. but then why would you use an ISP like AOL. 😕

Too bad he has WIndows 2000. Need to remove those software and maybe run windows update to see it will speed up his system.

Use RASPPOE instead of Enternet or whatever the program is that actually establishes the connection. It works much better.

The software is crap, however, after you setup your account and configure your router for ppoe, you don't need it anymore. It's all about the reload guys!
