yahoo chat.. anyway to monitor

Is there a free program to record Yahoo chat? Both sides like a keylogger but with incomeing and outgoing ?

My freinds wife awns a bussiness and is concerned over a worker spending too much time chatting.

Want to have proof in case termination is needed

Network sniffers are probably the way to go.

i think a keylogger is the way to go. I also remember a few programs that would routinely take screenshots or so. You can probably find a bunch of shareware programs on download.com

Suggested Key logger (I have used this) but also told her it would tack only the outgoing (not to big on that)

somewhere you have a router, you can sniff the traffic though the router, or if you have a real switch, it should of a port for sending all traffic to for this exact purpose.

Although save yourself some time, pass around a acceptable use policy that talks about how you want them to use the internet, and in this document tell them all traffic to the web is logged and monitored.

That should clear it up.

Yes, if you have a dumb switch. If you have a decent managed switch you should be able to capture just about everything.

No, a 'dumb switch' operates on Layer 2 of the OSI model, while a 'managed' switch actually operates on Layer 3. Normally, routers operate on layer 3 - but new managed switches can do much of the work that you used to have to have a router for.

Hubs, btw, work on Layer 1 of the OSI model. . .
