I'm getting the feeling that there's a deeper level of politics between Yahoo and Facebook on this decision but I'm not seeing the big picture here.

I just got this email from Yahoo:
Thank you for using Yahoo! Contacts. We know how critical your contacts are to you and we want to inform you of an upcoming change in our Yahoo! Contacts mobile sync services. This change will affect users who have imported or plan to import contacts from Facebook into Yahoo! Contacts and then sync them to their smartphone or tablet.

After August 3, 2012, when syncing your Yahoo! Contacts with a smartphone or tablet, your Facebook contacts will no longer sync to that device. Facebook contacts synced with a smartphone or tablet via Yahoo! Contacts prior to August 3, 2012 will no longer be accessible on that smart device.

Please note that all of your contacts - including your Facebook contacts - will remain intact and fully accessible through Yahoo! Contacts. You can also access your Yahoo! Contacts when you sign in to your Yahoo! Mail.

Kind regards,

Yahoo! Contacts team

I just got this email from Yahoo:

I am getting s little sick of this. They are MY contacts. I want MY contacts to be accessible as I please. I want to be able to download them, merge them and upload them

In fact, it is BETTER for Facebook, Yahoo, Google and Apple if I can merge all my contacts because, then, they get all MY contacts for their backroom deals, not just the ones I happen to place on their system(s).

The big picture here is that Facebook is probably the one that is at fault, not Yahoo.
Google had this same problem with Facebook a year ago.
Facebook wants a one way street of information coming towards them, however they don't want any information going out.
The Facebook app imported contacts from your phone to their own servers through a hack...However they didn't allow exporting of information back.

I'm not sure if that's still the case now, but I remember these things like they were just yesterday.
