so i wake up this morning and it is freezing cold. i only had a few minutes to fiddle with the thermostat before heading to work and it appears that my furnace quit working last night. from what i can tell it sounds as the the furnace is running (pilot light should be fine) but i never hear the blower kick on. anyone have a similar experience or suggestions on what the problem could be, such as is there a fuse for the blower?. i have never really messed with a furnace but i am hoping it could be something simple.

um, it almost sounds like you ran out of whatever your furnace uses for heat.

Does the blower make any noise at all? Did you look in the little viewing area for confirmation that the pilot is on and heating? If now, check your circuit breaker.

It could be the circuit board that controls everything, could be the blower itself. The blower might have a reset on it.

that is one thing i was hoping not to hear. when i get home i will have a chance to go under the house and check things out, hopefully i wont experience any odorless gases

Do you have a normal CO detector? I'd buy one just to have either way.

Agreed. CO detector is about as important as a smoke detector if you ask me.

i do have one inside the house but not under.

The furnace is in a crawl space, then? I'd go get a CO detector if you don't have any easily accessible electricity down there?

When mine goes out, a tap on the control panel usually gets it working again. There are plug in control modules that periodically fail and I have found the a light rap with the knuckle on the controller gets it going. When it starts happening frequently, the modules are changed.

its more like a half basement/half crawlspace so it is pretty open.

turns out my furnace has an igniter instead of a pilot light and i think that is the problem. unfortunately i am still waiting for the service guy to call. last night was friggen cold and it is supposed to get down to 28 tomorrow night so they better be able to fix it ASAP.
