Yes another HL thread, I'm one of those people that never finish a game (okay rarely). With HL2 coming (who knows when) can someone sum up (or link) the story of half-life and all it's add-ons (blue shift, opposing forces, etc)?

and no, I'm not about to go re-installing HL and play it.

:D :D :D

I gotta quit with the ()'s (I do them too much).

yes and time consuming! I get headaches playing FPS single player for more than an hour (but I can multiplayer all day, go figure).

Half-Life: You're a scientist who's stuck in the middle of an experiment gone horribly wrong.
Blue Shift: You play as Barney (a security guard). Also includes a hi-res weapons upgrade package.
OpFor: You play as a grunt trying to kill Gordon
That's all that I can think of for now.

After 10 minutes you forget there's a storyline. It's nothing like Hitman 2 or Mafia etc

A common misconception. The Half Life singleplayer game has been artificially inflated to some godlike level since it came out. The story was run of the mill.

You are Gordon Freeman, a supergeek scientist at a government research facility located in Black Mesa Bumfvck-middle-of-nowhere. Experiment goes horribly wrong, ripping hole in space, weird creatures start teleporting in and killing everything in sight. You run run run away, pick up weapons, shoot things, and find out that the government has decided to lock down the facility by killing EVERYONE inside (especially you). Meanwhile, there's some mysterious guy in a suit who casually struts around the place while aliens rip apart humans. You jump through a bunch of hoops, get some really cool weapons, eventually are sent to the "otherworld" (named ZEN or XEN or something like that) to do something (I can't remember what - probably to close the space rift), and end up killing a giant floating alien baby thingie.

Then the guy with the suit appears and offers you a job working for "them." You never find out who "They" are. If you accept, end of story. If you refuse, you wake up surrounded by a zillion alien creatures, and you presumably die.

Don't really remember much about Blue shift (where you play a security guard) or Opposing Force (where you play one of the soldiers assigned to "cleanse" Black Mesa).

I'm just telling it like it is. If the Half Life multiplayer hadn't taken off like it did we all would have forgotten about Half Life a long time ago.

The story wasnt anything spectacular but it was good. Execution was awesome though, thats what made the impression.

I never really got into the multiplayer aspect :Q:Q:Q, but I thought half-life was an EXCELLENT single-player experience. I played a lot of games in between Doom and Half-life, and quite frankly, the FPS genre was getting kind of boring until Half-Life set a new standard for gaming. Every FPS that has come out since has probably been heavily influenced in one way or another by Half-Life.
