I remember beginning Half Life and going into the Black Mesa research facility, and they had those coloured lines running along the corridors which told you where to go.

Why don't more games do a similar, ingenious idea, it would save people from getting lost and confused as to where the heck they're meant to go (TR:AOD), it's a brilliant idea, even for real buildings, instead of signs you have to search for. Just give a room a colour, and then make a trail leading to it.
 
One thing I didn't like about the original HL was that there was only one path of travel. There was a clearly defined "where you've been" and a definite path to "where you are going". There were no ambiguous choices that would lead to dramatically different consequences.
