YAH2T: Yet Another Halo 2 Thread

the whole voice communicating thing on xbox live. i really REALLY don't like how you can only talk to the people that are within a certain range of you, and its usually very friggin close like say 10 feet or so. And I also hate how the other team (on team games) can hear you talking UNLESS you option to hold the white button, in which only talks to your teammates.

i think it should be JUST like counterstrike, where you can talk to ONLY your teammates and can talk to them from wherever they are on the level, whether right next to you or a mile away. i mean come on, these guys have the helmets on and stuff so i'm sure they can put some kinda communicatoin device in there (if they are worried about it being realistic or something), instead of trying to make i 'real' and have you only be able to talk to the guys right next to you.

i just really REALLY hope that they can fix that in some kind of update, because it really is annoying when playing on xbox live. but aside from that man, this game is great! i couldn't put it down last night.

EDIT:

i just learned last night, that if you press the white button that your teammates can hear you from ANYWHERE on the screen. before i thought that they could also only hear you if they were right near you. so i guess my gripe is not a gripe, it was just me being an idiot 🙂. so now i think it's cool that when you talk without pressing the button, everone can hear you. although i still would have liked it better if you could ONLY talk to teammates without pressing any button at all, and just never be able tot alk to the other team (like in CS).

If one bothered to read the manual... Gasp! It says that you don't have to HOLD the white button to speak, you simply press it and release, you will hear the radio noise and you speak. The radio automatically cuts off approx 1-2 sec after you stop speaking.

yes i know that, you can hear it from the headset actually when it cuts on/off. but regardless, it should have you talk to your teammates ONLY by default, not by pressing a button. IMO they have it backwards.

realistically speaking, no they don't have it backwards. Practically speaking, yes it would be nice...

But then, what would be the advantage of talking to just the local area and having to push a button just to do so ?

Meh, its so overrated. I feel like I'm playing almost the same game as before, but with two guns at the same time....level design is still utterly, inexplicably terrible, and turns what could have been a stupendously incredible game into unrealized potential.

But then again, its halo, and apparently I'm not allowed to not like halo so.....WOOO, HALO 2 ROCKS!

I like the new levels, well some of them. I don't like the ones that are very closed quarters. My favorite are playing CTF games, or the ones with the bombs. Basically team games with objectives are my favorite. I just love the ease of going online and playing games with other people. and the whole 'party' hopping thing is awesome!

you are allowed to dislike the single player campaign, but you must agree that the multiplayer is without question the best xbox live experience EVAR!!!

I have to agree with you. Last night I had to rip myself from the TV or else I'd still be playing it.

heh yea. and last night, i finally understood how the whole party system works. its awesome how you can go with a squad of 8 in your party, do match making, play against 8 random people, kick the sh!t out of them, then go back into the party lobby and do the whole match making again!

the first night I was playing that I had no idea you could do that, its just awesome! i have heard alot fo compaints about the match making system on some bungie forums, but I think its just because people don't really know how to use it yet.

the party and matchmaking system is a stroke of genius. we had 3 in a party last night and we joined a 8v8 CTF game. for some reason it got laggy and kicked us back to the lobby about 5 minutes in. when we matched up again, we got back into the same game. I don't know if that was by chance or design but it was pretty cool.

I havent played it on live, since doing so would get my xbox immediately banned...but theres no way in the world I'm giving up my xbmc just to play halo.

Sounds like fun though, but the single player is totally lacking. Halo gets the props it does because its been the only viable and fun 4 player console fps in recent history.

its called turn your chip off ... it works wonders and lets you use xbox live 🙂

I still don't get the Halo craze. Played the first one, found it less fun than UT or counter strike. What's so special about it? Just because it's a FPS on a console? That's all that I can come up with. So Halo 2 doesn't excite me really. But hey, I'm glad that some people are enjoying it. 😉

not necessarily

i think that has NOTHING to do with the chips. it has to do with 1 of the 3 following IMO:

1. They upgraded their HD and MS found out, or a combination with 2...
2. They went on xbox live with their HD unlocked.
3. Someone got their EEPROM and went on live, and they were banned with the EEPROM they stole, OR went online the same time as the guy with the real one, banning the EEPROM

i dont think it has anything to do with the actual chip itself, at all. just people being dumb or people stealing eeprom's.

quick question about Live, can four players on 1 xbox connect to Live to play against other people or is it only 1 person per xbox?

yes, you can. and it will show up on the list of players on live with the XBox Live gamertag and a number next to it, like 1,2,3, etc.

Single player: I'm not crazy about the new health level, dual wields just end your life TOO quickly. Overall it's still a very solid, playable, fun game.

Multiplayer: Oh boy. The party system on XBL rocks it like nothing else. Jumping into ranked clan matches where you know the type of game about 15 seconds before it actually begins is hair-raising and a great idea by Bungie to keep us all on our toes.

Level design is pretty shoddy, I think. Maps are too complicated overall, or too linear. Hopefully we'll see some downloadable content on that end soon.
