yah(oo) odd?

hi people!
so i was gonna go to yahoo and mistyped it instead
i either went to ya.com or yah.com
but it immediatly opened like 5 or 6 ad windows.
thats ok but then it said want to put this site as default i put no.
but then when i finally found my way to yahoo my settings changed
My question is how in the world that happen???

all this just to get to yahoo

Some Sites Register Names That sound close to "big" domain names . These "nice" people tend to use things like changing your default home page and changing your hosts file to do this.


I've seen them make "fake" checkboxes and either reverse values , or take anything you click on as yes .


I recommend trying to get Ad - Aware and/or checking your HOSTS file if you are on Windows.Also clean up your Temporary Internet Files and Clean Up Your Downloaded Program Files from Windows , as most of those redir programs use sh!tty methods like that to get through.

Agreed. I also always hit the close box when I get a choice like that. Google toolbar is an awesome popup blocker and I highly reccmend Lavasoft's Ad-aware 6 to make sure that nothing malicious got left in your registry from that little encounter :beer:

Of course, you can never be sure you're clean until you reformat....
