Yah I know....New Rig

Ok I realize there are many threads on the subject but that's exactly why I'm in this quandry. I had setup a system I thought would handle anything current day games on Ultra with no issue's, and then in reading some of the other threads I've begun to question my thinking. i5 vs i7 etc. So Just for my own personal sanity I would like to hear it again with my specific build in mind.

I game @ 1920x1080

Also note I'm coming from a Core Duo 2.4 with 4 gigs of ram and a gtx 220.

Case: Antec DF-85

CPU: i7 2600 3.4GHz

MB: MSI P67A-GD65 B3

CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D14

Ram: G. Skill Ripjaw 8Gb

PS: SeaSonic X650 Gold 650W

GPU: MSI GTX 560 Ti 1Gb

SSD : OCZ Vertex 2 90Gb

SD : Western Digital Caviar 1Tb

$1598.99 (Also includes Windows 7 for System Builders)

So thoughts on what to change, what else may or may not be needed. I'm just tired of 10 fps in Rift on Medium settings.

If possible, would you also explain why you would change part A for part B.

Also if there are any conflicts/problems with the items I've chosen working together.

I'm not one of those people who have to have the best just for bragging rights. I just want the best for the price that's fully functional and has some room for the future.

The 2500 is the i5 correct? Any suggestions on which board to use with it? And just to clarify the 2500 will handle any of the games fine, no need to really step up to an i7?

Correct the 2500K is the i5, and it is pretty much the de facto CPU for gaming right now.

Get a 1155 mobo for ~$140 and you'll be golden. Buy from Gigabyte, MSI, or ASUS.

The GD65 is fine. You don't really need all of its features, though so go with the $135 (in stock) GA-P67A-UD3-B3.

I guess I overlooked that you had an SSD in there. The one you picked is good. If your usage is going to involve a lot of sequential R/W then RAID0 SSDs could be good too. However, that would be ~$240+ for 2 of them, at which price the 128Gb C300 and next generation drives have to be strongly considered.

Lots of good advice. I'd add that the power supply is more then you need. Especially with that case you don't need to spend extra on a modular power supply. Newegg just had the corsair Tx750 on sale for around $80.oo.

Also, a mobo that does 8x8 sli would be cheaper and maybe 2% slower. With all the money you could save on everything you could probably afford not only the 570 but also to upgrade the SSD to the 120gb version. If you have Steam folder or some such then the extra storage comes in handy.

Super. Thanks guy's for all the help. I think I'm set for my build. Decided to just stick with 1 SSD and maybe upgrade to a gen 3 later rather than doing a raid setup.

So I got all my parts and am in the process of building the rig, but the cooler master 212+ fan says it's 1156 and NOT 1155 compatible.....Ugh...Is this correct? On the website it says it's good for 1155 and you guy's recommended it with my 2500k, but the box and manual say 1156....

Its the exact same socket MINUS one stinking pin. It is the same socket SIZE, SHAPE, and everything (except missing a pin) so it will fit, just use the 1156 mounting instructions.

One other quick question.

The heatsink itself on the 212+ once fully installed moves ever so slighty rotationaly. The mounting screws on the "spider" attachment are fully seated. Is this normal?

As long as the base is secure, a bit of flex on the tower is normal.

Using Aida 64 it says the Cpu is @ 20Cel, and each core is up to 30Cel at an idle.

On a side note, windows is not detecting the data drive. It shows up in bios though. Wonder if I need to set the jumpers to slave, although the cheap drive that was recommended didn't come with a jumper :/

Just checked the bios again, and the SSD is on IDE Channel 0 as Slave and the Samsung is on IDE Channel 1 as Slave as well. hrm... Any ideas?

Did you or did you not set your host controller to configure SATA as AHCI? You want to change that and be forced to reinstall Windows if you want maximum performance from your disk drives.

You just have to assign your HDD a drive letter to use it. Just type "disk man" into the start menu search bar, then click on "create and format hard disk partitions" to open Disk Management. Create a partition from the raw space if there isn't one already, then assign it a drive letter.
