So I'm in my 10 day cool down period per Khalifurrrnia, so I don't have it yet.
It's a Stevens 200 Bolt Action .243. I got this Bushnell Legend 5-15x40 scope to go with it. I'm pretty excited, I'll post pictures when I can go pick it up.

EDIT : Now with pictures:
Picture 1----Picture 2
there she is. YAY. Never mounted a scope before, man that was a pain. Also never boresighted before, hopefully one of the guys at the range will be willing to help me when i go down there next week. anyway, there she is.

EDIT: Took her to the range
Finally made it out to the range today. This is my first centerfire rifle, the only other i have is a Ruger 10/22. This was also my first time sighting in a scope. Well, the first thing that comes to mind following my day at the range today is 'ouch'. I kept reading how this is a "girl rifle" or for youth. Wow i guess i'm a grade-a pansy then :( . I only managed 18 shots before calling it a day. I didn't want to develop a flinch when shooting since i was almost wincing after the later shots. Anyway, that was all it took. YAY! I've got it in (what i think to be) a good spot. It's hitting 1.25" high of the POA at 50yds. Only group i tried to shoot was about the size of a nickel, again, at 50yds. That was from the bench, with no rest. Next time i go i'll use a rest and see what it can do.

paper target
"group" is located on the left side of the target(TOP) and the final shot after adjustments is on the 7 circle at 3'oclock. POA was a set of 6 staples about 1.25" to the right(in this orientation) of the POI.

Congrats!

But it's black, therefore it is only used to kill people. Evil black rifle.

Leading me to the point of this thread: Anyone in the bay area(SF) reload? I want to get into it but want to see it first hand before I go and try it on my own. So if anyone has a press and would be willing to show me the ropes, I'll buy you a beer(or six). :)

Tks, tsk, didn't they tell you guns a alcohol don't mix? :p

Drinking is also bad when reloading. Don't want to mess up those measurements.

I wouldn't bother trying to reload yet. Get yourself a reloading manual (abc's of reloading is a good one off the top of my head) and keep an eye out for powder and primers for what you want to reload. No use buying a press, scale, dies, chamfer, priming tools and etc if you can't get powder and primers.

I'm personally done for a while, but my last purchase was a rock island armory (armscor) 1911 about a month ago. Pretty much use it as a dedicated 22lr 1911 platform with my STI (rebadged advantage arms target model) 22lr conversion kit.

EDIT: What made you choose the rifle? Not exactly a cartridge that is plentiful.

Shit, .243 is a dime a dozen around here. Everytime I'm at Walmart they have boxes of the stuff, Academy sports does to. I'm still debating on my next rifle purchase in either .243 or .270

right now with ammo going to way it does, all the normal callibers are out of stock...

I was thinking of getting a .40sw for my next handgun because it is almost always in stock, where at 9mm, 45 and 357 are hardly ever in stock :(

See I can find 9mm all damn day now, but .40SW is no where to be found. :( Which is weird because when the whole "ammo shortage" started, I could find 40SW everywhere, but no 9mm. Now it's reveresed, but I still can't find .45ACP, .38 or .357 anywhere. Well I can at one place, but they want $60 for a box of .45ACP Blazer Aluminum. Screw that.

OP Make sure you get rings highenough for that scope to clear the barrel. Nothing like mounting a scope and finding out it's to big to clear the barrel on standard rings. :(

Hah, drinking AFTERWARDS  I have already read the ABC's of reloading and bought the Lyman 49th guide. I don't want to invest in reloading equipment RIGHT NOW, but I see it as an inevitability down the road. Besdies, i love tinkering.
As to why? It's a good all around caliber; this is hearsay from the web, i did lots of reading. Good for varmints and good enough for deer. Less recoil than the .308, I was originally going to get a .223 but wanted a little more upward options. I know it's not as common as say a .223 or a .308 or .270. but i see it most of the time when i'm at walmart. I've only ever shot a medium powered rifle once in my life. I only have a .22lr right now and wanted to go up. *shrug*

this is what i have now

besides, reloading components are just as hard to find as ammo...

Nice! I have a Stephens model 66C and it is a pretty fun rifle to practice with, esp with the scope that was added on later. for quality firearms!

Great load! Easy to find, relatively cheap, and has a wide range of possible uses. A .243Win packing 80grains is a pretty hard hitting, devastating load. I prefer it to the popular .223 My old man owns several, and used them on deer and elk in Oregon (and did quite well). Don't believe the marketing that it's solely a varmint round.

Can't corroborate the supposed scarceness of this ammunition : pretty much every gun shop or Walmart I've been to carries it, the one exception being to non 125grain loads. Finding good, cheap .45 is another matter though. :(

A good choice as a crossover varmint/deer round. Accurate and easy to reload for.

95gr Noslers will work for whitetail.

THATS RACIST!

No it's not, it's a statistical statement, you know, the kind on the GMAT and SATs'. So it's not a biased question at all, simple statistics.

For now, i want to get used to it, so lots of paper punching at different ranges, if the opportunity to take a few tree rats along the way presents itself....then so be it. However, i do want to take deer with it. I doubt i'd ever try elk, i'd upgrade my firearm before i tried that. I'll give a range report sometime next week when i get back.
