Got the DPMS Oracle (not Sportical) w/red dot sight last year (ignore green dot on stock photo):

image%20(1)_0.jpeg

finally outfitting it a little.

i bought a 2point sling for it from walmart. to my surprise, my AR15 only has a single sling attachment on the rifle butt. WTF?

So getting this 1point sling instead ($3 + $3 shipping):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...SIN=B002T6XLZ4

MagPul Iron sights ($75 + $10 shipping):

What do you think on either?

edit:
Do i even need a sling? seems useless since my AR15 only has a 1point connection.
Whats the purpose/advantage of a 1point connection on a AR15 vs 2points?

So is that gun a small little thing like an M4 instead of an M16?

1 point slings were pretty popular with M4s, I only ever carried an M16 and a 3-point sling.

A properly attached 1-point allows you to move the gun from shoulder to shoulder very easily. I'm not sure where you would hang it though, if you hook it onto the stock it will hang way too low for an average sized person.

Those sights are fine.

The only sling I will run anymore are the blue force gear vickers slings, I highly reccomend them. I use one on my S&W M&P15t and one on my M1a Socom 16. On the Socom 16 I removed the front loop, and used blue force gears universal wire loop to attach it on the front, and it works great.

Sling (padded version) -

Wire loop -

Here is a pic of the sling on my m1a, and a closeup of the wire loop attachment.

As far as the sights go, magpul sights work perfectly every time I have used them (I dont own a set myself, I have troy sights).

shrug?

14.5" barrel + flash supressor = 16" minimum to make it legal.
hm.. or these might be the specs of a friend's AR15??

single point slings are very popular for ar-15s. they have advantages and disadvantages, just like everything.

You need a different front sight. You can't mount a Magpul MBUS front sight directly on a gas block as your is set up, they will melt. Yankee Hill and MI make solid gas block mount flipper sights but your looking at $60-$80 for one.

If all you do is go to the range, no, you don't need a sling. 1 vs 2 point is a matter of preference, neither is "better".(I prefer 2 point) You can even get slings that convert to both. If your willing to do a little bit of work and spend $20 you can mount a second sling attachment on your rifle. Like adairusmc, I also use a Vickers sling.

You need to do something though, a single point mounted at the very back of the stock is not going to work well at all.

This would work for a cheapish single point attachment. If you wanted to do a 2 point something like this would work with the factory handguards.

Another option would be to swap the handguards for a $30 MOE set that would open up a lot of options for sling and light mounts but if it's just a range gun it's a bit over the top.

YHM or someone like that makes an offset rail adapter sling mount.

If all else fails, just drill holes in your forearm and mount it like I did...

Yankee hill! Whenever I get around to buying an eotech for my rra AR I'll be going with Yankee hill BUIS. No rush though, gadgets don't really impress me.

I'm split between YHM and Troy... I don't care for the MagPuls, they don't seem very sturdy. Light and compact... yes, but I figure if I'm going to BUIS it's for a reason...

20% off at Troy going on right now, plus an extra $10 off a set of sights, and free shipping on orders over $100: http://store.troyind.com/default.asp

Expires 11/25.

Troy is out of your price range if your only willing to spend $65/each. Your going to be looking at Yankee Hill around that range.
They have another 20% off code for Cyber Monday.

And actually, you can afford Troy sights if you take advantage of all their promos.

$200 for a front/rear set, minus 20%, minus $10, plus free shipping equals: ~$150

the $10 off isnt good on a prepackaged set.

The yankee hills look nice. co-witness w/my red dot?

For anything other than mounting to a gas block is take a magpul mbus. Cheaper and drop tests have shown they hold up extremely well. 5' drop and only a 1moa change vs 3moa change for troy and a 16moa change for matech.

For mounting to a gas block definitely a metal bios is in order!

I'd get Magpul MBUIS sights. Like someone said, you can't mount them on the gas block.

That rifle, as it's pictured, is NOT setup for a single point sling. You'd need to put something like the Magpul ASAP plate on the buffer tube where it screws into the receiver. Normally, AR-15s do come setup for two point slings as they have a sling attachment point on the bottom of the "typical" gas block that comes with the front sight.

I carried an M4 for maybe 22 months day after day and never once "dropped" it..... shouldn't even be a test, that's ridiculous

That's going to depend on you dot and mount. That looks like some kind of knock-off ACOG so no clue. With a normal red dot you can either have absolute or lower 1/3 co-witness with the mount you buy for the optic. I prefer lower 1/3.

And ive never dropped ANY of my guns in 20 years of shooting. But that doesnt mean others havent. So whats your point? Just because it never happened to YOU it is a non factor and should be discarded as useless information?

All im saying is the mbus are just as durable and even show to be able to withstand shock better than more expensive, all metal versions.
