yaGUNt: Best revolver for home defense?

JEDI

Lifer
I want to play Russian Roulette during the times when noone robbing my house 😛

Seriously, if anyone threatens my life or my families inside my house, i want him dead. but i dont think the cops will believe i panic if i unloaded a clip of 15 shots into the perp.

but they will believe if i only fired 6 shots (ie: emptying a revolver)

So whats the Best revolver for home defense?

Shotgun is a great idea as well. The sound of pump racking a round into the chamber is enough to deter most.

and for those who aren't detered, you don't have to aim very well to hit them

Believe that if you believe only one thing in your life.
12 gauge with buckshot.

In all seriousness, get a Chief's Special. This is as close to a no-brainer as it gets, it's the best revolver of the last 100 years (although some might make a case for the Detective's Special instead).

I think a revolver isa bad idea. heavier, less rounds.

A nice 9mm would be my choice. Or a small 22

A revolver has the advantage, absent a major mechanical/structural failure of a part, of not jamming. Period. And if your cartridge fails to fire... you just pull the trigger again. No clearing drills. No time taken analyzing the problem, because you pull the trigger again and the hammer strikes a fresh cartridge. I still prefer a modern, well made automatic, as they dont jam often at all and I feel the increased ammo capacity to be worth the small risk. But I can respect the opinion of people who dont want to take the small risk of a stovepipe jam when the target is 5 feet away and their shot has not incapacitated him.

I wouldnt recommend a 9mm* or a 22LR for a home defense gun. I would recommend, as long as you feel comfortable firing one, either a 45 ACP, 10mm, or 40 S&W. However, ballistic testing has shown that the 5.56mm NATO is less lethal after going through a interior wall than most handgun rounds, and most shotgun rounds that people are likely to pick for home defense (ie, buckshot, not #9 shot). Odd, but true... or it is true if performance against ballistic gelatin is a good measure of the terminal performance of a round. Which some people dispute. *shrug*

*Excluding a Glock 18C with a 33 round magazine full of frangible rounds.

People panic fire all the time. Cops included. Just make sure you are making your shots count. I'd prefer to keep a couple rounds in reserve but really, as long as the guy is standing facing you or has a viable weapon within reach while prone, you're in the clear. Assuming the shooting was justified in the first place.

You can always put a couple of frangible rounds on top of the stack with some hollowpoints backing them up in case they become really necessary. A Sig Sauer 229 in .40 S&W with a couple of Glaser Blues leading with Cor Bon 135s trailing was how I had my weapon loaded for a while.

What about shotgun bean bag rounds? They seem to be pretty effective in subdueing people in videos on tv. I bet a point blank round would hurt quite a bit, hehe. I really wouldn't want to end up spraying the walls with blood.

If you're going to use a real firearm, you shoot to kill. If you want a non-lethal option try mace or a stun gun.

I would go with a Ruger GP100 357 mag, It's built like a tank and is simple to use. In fact thats what I have under my pillow now. 🙂
