You have mobsters after you or something that you're concerned about this?

Also with whatever choice you make spend the money to put at least 100 rounds through your gun to ensure reliable operation with that round. An SD scenario is not when you want to find out your gun doesn't like that load.
This is the best advise of all, all those rounds are good and in all probability will perform to expectations when you need them to so long as your exact gun functions properly with them, it could be the best cartridge in the world and it wouldn't matter if your gun chokes on them...I have the Federal in my 9mm at home but carry Hornady TAP in my carry .45

I remember seeing a bullet several years ago that looked like it had a pencil lead in the center of it. I'm pretty sure it was a 9mm round. Does anyone know what that was called?

Shoot the fucker in the head

BATedit-s.jpg

BAT produce an impressive wound channel, and the humans shot with it were generally incapacitated.

FMJ are the least effective due to no expansion on impact, and head shots are way to difficult in high stress scenarios to rely on them...:colbert:

The stopping power of any handgun bullet turns out to be a function of its ability to disrupt vital bodily functions, not the diameter or weight or initial shape of the bullet that strikes the victim.

True, however a FMJ tends to punch straight through without causing peripheral damage like an expanding round would, increasing the likely hood of disrupting vital bodily functions...someone posted a youtube video yesterday of a guy who shot himself in the stomach with an M1 Garand FMJ round getting it cleaned, it went right through, had it been a soft point/hollow point I doubt he would have made it

Nice in theory, not so viable in reality. Buying ammo online, in bulk etc, you're generally looking at $20+ per box of 50 for 9mm defensive ammo, if you get the LE packs and so on. Buying at retail prices or for anything bigger than 9mm you're talking about $100+ worth of ammo.

Of course like everyone else in ATOT I make a million dollars an hour so it's no issue for me. Just trying to empathize with the 99%. ^_^

A sub-munition? What does that have to do with 9mm?

General target shooting use the cheap stuff, but get 4-5 boxes of the good stuff then run 2-3 through your gun to make sure they function properly, keep the rest for carry purposes:) I'm not average around here so can't afford to shoot the expensive stuff everyday either, but I've picked up 5 boxes of TAP when I bought my .45 3 years ago and still have 2 boxes left to keep my mags loaded when I'm not target shooting;)

Obscure/rare round and not readily available to anyone so not in the running...and from what I've found BAT stood for Blitz Action Trauma

And more bullet pics:) I think the fourth row down on the right is the Gecko round you mention

Aah that's a nice chart. Yeah its Blitz sorry my mistake. They don't make them anymore I think not the ones that we use to get at least but I notice they started to design a new one.

Some more pics

The 5.7 is an interesting round...have you seen the new caliber from RIA that closely resembles it?

They sell a 1911 pistol chambered in it that comes with a replacement 9mm barrel so you can fire both calibers

Whatever feeds through your gun most reliably.

The real answer is whichever round you can put on target most reliably and repeatedly.

These two are far more important than bullet weight, +p, +p+, etc. If your gun won't function with it, or you can't hit with it, it is not what you want to use for self defense. I would much rather hit someone with an "inferior" round (or rounds) than miss entirely or have to clear a malfunction.
