Why wont the title change to YAGunT from YAGT?

Edit3:
hm.. do they make the Mark III 22/45 (4" barrel) anymore?

Lots of gun sites are out of stock.

I've probably fired 5,000 - 6,000 rounds on her - amazing feel - great plinker.

This! I have both and they are great, not too expensive, well built firearms. Both are a blast to shot, very accurate and because both are popular there are a lot of after market accessories available. If I could have only 2 firearms they both would be a the top of my list!

For a rifle the S&W M&P 15-22 would be my pick. For a pistol I would pick up a P22.

These are the default answers for rifle and pistol .22LR caliber. I have one of each, they're great.

nah, if i were him at the very least i'd go with the 77/22. if he's doing target practice, he's gonna want a bolt action.

but the 77/22 is just a bolt action plinker, not a target rifle.

i have a remington 541X that i got from CMP for 250. but they aint available anymore, and clean 541x's apparently go for over a k. lol.

look through what CMP has available.

For a .22 rifle, the Ruger 10/22 is tough to beat. My preference for a .22 pistol is the Browning Buckmark.

Everybody in this thread seems to love the Ruger Mark III. But it looks like a German WWII pistol? same with Browning Buck Mark.

the Walther P22 and Sig Mosquito looks closest to what a modern gun looks like, followed by the Smith & Wesson 22A.
reviews says the Sig Mosquito requires high quality ammo (ie: not Federal from wally World), else it jams.

what do you guys think/heard about the Smith & Wesson 22A?

I guess I'm just an old fuddy duddy, but except for the cheap price of ammo I see no use for the 22LR round. It doe's not provide good practice for shooting a high powered rifle, might as well practice with a BB gun.

When the zombie squirrel apocalyse comes you will be ready :)

If you must have a plinker or varmit gun at least get a 22mag, 22-250 or .223

I hate ruger. Sorry, but I refuse to ever buy or recommend any of their products.

Pistol, I'd go browning over ruger any day of the week and pay more for the privilege. Or see if you can find a sig trailside, which is basically a rebadged hammerli. Or, find something like a model you already have but in 22. You can find plenty of conversion slides for 1911's (I think advantage arms are the best) or a lot of other models.

do you have other pistols? any of them offer a 22lr conversion kit? this way you are on the same weapon all the time.

My savage 22 offers plenty of good practice for my 308. If offers cheap practice for form and discipline. Putting a target at 100-300 yards away provides just as good a challenge as sending a 223 or 308 round out at further distances. Often more as you have to pay much more attention to the wind.

When the zombie apocolypse comes, I think 22 will do much better than other calibers. Lighter, smaller, you can carry much more of it. Compare a box of 550 rounds and how much 223, 308, 30-06 or other "big" rounds in the same amount of space and weight.

That and it's well established that body shots are virtually useless against zombies. If you're going to go for headshots, might as well go .22

In all seriousness though, IIRC the .22LR has killed more people than any other round.

For a 22 handgun at the range, I like the Ruger MkIII and Walther P22

The P22 is kind of a pain in the ass to clean though.
