YAGT: Whats a harmonically stabilized gun barrel?

When I saw the name I thought "desctructive harmonic resonance". Everybody's seen those videos of the bridge that was going all nuts rippling up and down, etc. Old, black and white. Yeah, those. That bridge was brought down by sound- I don't know all the details, but I think it was something about the exact narural frequency of the bridge being hit somehow, and the whole thing just amplified it and shook itself to pieces. I think this gun thing may have something to do with that, keeping the barrel stable with harmonics or something.

BTW- search google for "brown note".

if it's what i'm thinking of it's a tuning fork in the handle to reduce vibration...

but this doesn't look like that... looks like marketing to me

You are talking about the old Tacoma Narrows bridge, which collapsed in 1940. I actually live about a mile from its replacement. The bridge's collapse was not caused by sound in any sense. It was caused by severe vibrations caused by wind. The bridge's natural resonance created huge, severe fluctuations (apparently the sidewalk on one side was as much as 28 feet higher than the other!).

Correct, natural freqency.

Probably similar to the Browning BOSS system, just a way to dampen the barrel vibrations. What "ive heard it it's a good idea to hack the last inch or two off the end of the Mini's barrel, supposed to go a long way in making it more accurate. Really, if you need something that accurate, might as well get an AR.
