YAGT: What would you do in this situation?

I met a girl at a bar through mutual friends. I asked her out to a lounge and had a lot of fun. The next day she moved up to New York to be with her sister. Three weeks later, she has decided to move back home (my area). We have been talking a lot on the phone - maybe an hour or so every other day, and she tells me how much she enjoys talking to me, things about me she likes such as my personality, etc. She wanted me to come up to NYC tonight, because it's her last night here; she's coming back tomorrow. I was debating coming up, but I'm in the DC area and that's a 3.5 - 4 hour drive each way. Also I thought that while she would think it was sweet that I came up all that way for her, since I really haven't spend that much time with her and it's early on in getting to know each other, it might put her in the mentality that she has me wrapped around her finger. I've been in that situation before - when you feel that you "control" someone, the respect slips away and so does the attraction. It's sad that this is the case, but early on in getting to know someone, issues such as this come into play. In any case, she's coming back tomorrow and I think we could spend more meaningful time alone on a date than at a club with her friends on the last night in NYC.

Just curious, what would you guys have done in this situation?

do you think you'd have a good time if you went to NYC? if so, then go, if not (that is the 3-4 hour drive isn't worth it) then don't.

I think if you want to have a fun time and go out the drive should be a moot point...I can see where your coming from but as long as it doesn't become regular occurance (sp) I don't see the problem...like you I have been in that situation before...just trust your judgement

plus it sounds like you and the girl would hve fun

EDIT didn't see that either that it is past tense

Well..

Personally, I would've probably gone, especially if I knew that we were both into eachother.

This little bit, "I've been in that situation before - when you feel that you "control" someone, the respect slips away and so does the attraction. ... but early on in getting to know someone, issues such as this come into play. " sure did make me raise my eyebrows and perk up my ears, though.

Aw, go for it. Once in a lifetime chance.

EDIT: I see we're in the past tense. You missed out.

Why does it raise eyebrows/perk your ears?

Being in your shoes, I might have gone. Depends on how good looking the girl was and what I thought my chances were of getting laid, versus what I had going on for the night in my own neighborhood. The whole control issue would have never entered my mind; that's a non-issue to me.

Personally, if I wanted to drive 4 hours (ha, not likely) to see a girl I'll see tomorrow, then I'd go. And if I didn't want to drive 4 hours (cuz, well, I'm going to see her tomorrow), then I wouldn't go.

When fear of being controlled by her is your main basis for a decision, then it may already be too late.

If she's the type that likes to play silly control games you are much better off finding out sooner rather than later.

In other words, going to NYC may not have been a bad idea.
